Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Cram School and Night Study

The next day, the Uchiha Clan posted a notice:

All families with children aged three or older may enroll them in Uchiha Kindergarten for 5,000 ryo per term.

Located at Training Ground Two, the kindergarten will have 2-3 Jonin rotating as caretakers daily.

Participants can earn points by completing tasks, exchangeable for Ninjutsu.

Enrollment begins in one week at the clan head's residence.

...

The kindergarten announcement sparked fervor among Uchiha civilians.

Most lacked ninja aptitude and had been assigned to commerce or other trades to support the clan.

In this era of shinobi, becoming a ninja remained the highest honor.

This program offered what they lacked—not money, but ninja training and proper education.

That the clan would provide early education opportunities, allowing their children to potentially enter the ninja academy at 5-6 years old, was seen as tremendous fortune by Uchiha civilians.

Uchiha Yama, one such Uchiha villager. His identity was somewhat special—he was distantly related to the Second Elder, but due to lacking ninja talent, he never received proper training.

However, he managed the Uchiha Clan's grain import and export business. Excluding a few exceptionally skilled ninjas in terms of wealth, his personal fortune ranked within the top three in the clan.

Precisely because he had no ninja talent, his child, Uchiha Kai, also didn't receive much attention at birth.

Upon seeing this announcement, he was among the first—or perhaps the very first—to rush to the clan leader's residence to register.

Years of business experience had also taught him a thing or two about social etiquette, so he expressed to the clan leader his willingness to cover the expenses for the venue renovation.

This decision wasn't his alone—it was also the Second Elder's.

It served to ease tensions between the war faction and the clan leader, as well as to mend the relationship between the Second Elder and Uchiha Yama.

Such instances were not uncommon within the Uchiha Clan.

Families with Jonin quickly relayed the news to their entire households.

Everyone understood that the Uchiha Kindergarten was a crucial project for nurturing the next generation, something the clan now placed great emphasis on.

For Uchiha children already attending the ninja academy, evening tutoring sessions and daycare services were provided.

That's right—Uchiha Yato had introduced the concepts of evening self-study sessions and tutoring classes from his original world to the Uchiha Clan.

For Uchiha parents who demanded their children strive for excellence, this was an absolute delight.

Couples arguing today and unable to spar? Drop the kids off at daycare.

Too busy with work tomorrow to pick them up? Straight to Uchiha Kindergarten they go.

Such a massive facility naturally required management.

Indeed, Uchiha Yato was the principal of this Uchiha Kindergarten.

During this time, Uchiha Yato also connected with villagers like Uchiha Yama.

His goal was simple—he needed these villagers, who held some authority, to use their influence to issue certain tasks.

Much like the mission center in the Hokage's office, except these tasks mostly carried a playful nature.

No wages needed to be paid; the purpose was simply to let the children experience life and labor, hoping to broaden their horizons.

Of course, specialized teachers—Jonin—would supervise during these activities to ensure the safety of the Uchiha children.

Nothing ever goes entirely smoothly—there are always some setbacks.

And the first setback Uchiha Yato encountered was a second-year academy student—Uchiha Obito.

To this, Uchiha Yato was particularly pleased.

Not only could he establish his authority, but he also got to meet a canon character—meaning he could harvest a nice sum of emotional points. Truly killing two birds with one stone—utterly satisfying.

As for Uchiha Obito's issue, it wasn't exactly minor, but neither was it major. The main problem was that this guy was chronically late.

He was always late for the most bizarre reasons, which aligned perfectly with canon Uchiha Obito's habit of helping old ladies cross the street.

Moreover, because he had to attend the Uchiha Kindergarten in the evenings or afternoons, he couldn't spend time with the girl he liked—Rin Nohara.

This left Uchiha Obito with an extremely poor impression of Uchiha Yato. However, this brought Uchiha Yato a considerable amount of emotional currency, successfully increasing his balance by 2000, not counting the smaller amounts.

Now, Uchiha Yato's emotional currency has reached 3000 again, while the Eternal Kaleidoscope Copy Wheel Eye requires 300,000—meaning he's already 1% of the way there.

In just this short month, the gains have already surpassed ten times what Shimura Danzo and Sarutobi Hiruzen contributed during their last Leaf Court appearance.

As for Uchiha Obito's situation, given his knowledge of the original story, Uchiha Yato immediately pinpointed Obito's weakness—Rin Nohara.

He didn't resort to any physical punishment or verbal provocation or insults.

Instead, Uchiha Yato deliberately intercepted Obito and Rin just as they were leaving school.

Uchiha Yato said, "What a coincidence, Obito."

Obito wasn't exactly thrilled to see him.

Uchiha Yato's appearance meant he couldn't escape his tutoring fate, which didn't make him happy.

He only gave a slight nod to acknowledge him.

Then, Uchiha Yato abruptly shifted the conversation and asked Rin, "Is this Obito's friend?"

"Nice to meet you. My name is Uchiha Yato."

Rin responded politely with her own introduction and greeting.

Uchiha Yato, being naturally sociable, exchanged pleasantries with Rin before taking Obito away.

On the way, Uchiha Yato said to Obito, "Kid, you like that girl, don't you?"

Caught off guard, Obito's face turned red, and his neck stiffened as he stammered out frantic denials.

At that moment, the boy's flushed face said more than words ever could.

But Uchiha Yato's next sentence made Obito feel true malice.

"Then I'll help you tell her."

The instant he finished speaking, he turned around and pulled out a specially made megaphone, ready to shout.

In that moment, Obito moved faster than he ever had in his life to stop Uchiha Yato and destroy that flimsy paper megaphone.

Uchiha Yato continued, "If you're not on time for your two-hour tutoring session at 6 PM next time..."

"I'll introduce Rin to Kakashi. Actually, now that I think about it, those two would make a pretty good match."

It had to be admitted—Uchiha Yato knew exactly how to twist the knife.

By throwing Rin and Kakashi right in Obito's face, he instantly stripped Obito of all leverage.

Seeing his words had the desired effect, Uchiha Yato knew it was time to give Obito both an out and a small reward.

So he added, "If you behave well, I might make an exception and let Rin join the Uchiha Kindergarten too."

"How does that sound?"

Immediately, Obito was pulled back from the depths of despair.

For civilian ninja like Rin, the biggest struggle was access to learning resources.

Obito himself had no way to secure good Ninjutsu training, so Uchiha Yato's offer—now an outright promise—was incredibly tempting.

Obito exclaimed, "Really?!"

"That's amazing! I'll definitely do it, believe in me, Principal!"

Then, Uchiha Yato turned up the pressure. "And then you can invite her to take a walk around the Uchiha Clan Grounds together.""Don't you think this scene is absolutely wonderful?"

Hearing these words, Uchiha Obito was already completely swept off his feet, and soon found himself being taken by Uchiha Yato to Uchiha Kindergarten for counseling.

Of course, Uchiha Yato had to give Obito a little punishment for his earlier behavior.

He gave him a taste of the "Three Years Jonin, Five Years Chunin" question bank's special care in advance.

Thus, the initial treatment for Obito's minor issues was completed.
