Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 – The Last Wound

Coach Steve: "HAYUKI NOOOOOOOOO"

Referee: "The winner of this match and still the world middleweight champion is Antonio 'El Toro' Ramirez."

Antonio: "Another win… what a pain."

Coach Steve: "Damn it… we lost… Damn you, Hayuki…"

Commentator: "Incredible, ladies and gentlemen. The champion completely destroyed poor challenger Hayuki without mercy, despite the challenger coming from a solid winning streak. Still, he wasn't able to withstand the champion's power, who confirms himself as the world middleweight champion. Although it must be said, some of the hits he threw weren't exactly legal… but I'm not the referee, so I can't judge."

Crowd: "Boooo!"

"REF, ARE YOU BLIND OR WHAT?"

"FUCK YOU, SHITTY REF!"

"THOSE WERE ILLEGAL HITS!"

"GO ANTONIO!"

"YOU'RE THE BEST, ANTONIO!"

"TOO STRONG!"

Antonio heads toward Hayuki's body, now barely alive.

Antonio: "Let this be a lesson to you… being too confident can be your downfall."

Coach Steve rushes to Hayuki to help him.

Coach Steve: "Hayuki, Hayuki, HAYUKI WAKE UP, QUICK, CALL AN AMBULANCE IMMEDIATELY!"

Coach Steve: "FOR GOD'S SAKE, CALL THAT DAMN AMBULANCE!"

Commentator: "It seems the challenger can no longer get up, Antonio's hits were too fatal."

Antonio: "I told you…"

Antonio: "It would've been better… if you had surrendered earlier."

Crowd: "BOO FUCK ANTONIO!"

"HAYUKI, YOU REALLY SUCKED!"

"POOR GUY, SOMEONE CALL AN AMBULANCE!"

"GOOD JOB HAYUKI, STAY DOWN, IDIOT!"

"GO ANTONIO!"

"YOU'RE THE BEST ANTONIO!"

Hayuki stayed there, completely destroyed… both physically… and especially… mentally.

Hayuki was rushed as fast as possible to the nearest hospital, barely alive. The blows he took were very serious.

Coach Steve: "Quick, quick."

Doctors: "Stay calm, we'll take care of him now."

Coach Steve: "Yes, but will he get better? Will he be okay?"

Doctors: "We can't say yet, but rest assured, we'll do our best."

Coach Steve (thinking): "Hayuki… why… why did you have to ruin everything…"

Hayuki stayed in the hospital for at least seven days, unconscious the whole time, never waking up even once, never eating or drinking, only his memories of the match kept him company.

1 WEEK LATER

Hayuki finally wakes up.

Hayuki: "Where… where the hell am I… Antonio… Antonio!"

Hayuki: "ANTONIO!"

Hayuki: "Ouch, my head, it hurts so much…"

What happened? Why can't I move my head properly?

Hayuki: "Everything's spinning… and… the lights hurt my eyes… what a pain… I hear ringing in my ears? Ouch, I can't breathe well… I'm short of breath…"

The match… THE MATCH, I won… or…"

Hayuki: "Oh right… now I remember… damn, my head is spinning…"

Doctor: "Welcome back, kid."

Hayuki: "Ouch, it hurts…"

Doctor: "You were lucky, kid. You took some very bad hits and were at serious risk, but luckily you pulled through. Congratulations."

Hayuki: "Doctor, how long until I fully recover?"

Doctor: "Well, despite the serious injuries, thanks to your fitness and resilience, you might be out of the hospital in 1 to 2 months at most."

Hayuki: "What? That long?"

Doctor: "Look, I can only say it could have been much worse… a few more hits and you could have died."

Hayuki: "Die huh…"

Doctor: "Now we'll do some tests to see how your condition stabilizes, then we'll start some physiotherapy to regain mobility."

Hayuki: "Okay… thank you, doctor."

Doctor: "You're welcome, take care."

Hayuki: "Doctor?"

Doctor: "Yes?"

Hayuki: "Do you think I'll be able to fight in the ring again soon?"

Doctor: "It's hard to say now, but we're hopeful everything will go well. Don't worry."

Hayuki: "Okay, thank you."

Hayuki: "What a pain… well, after 1 or 2 months, I can finally start training again, and then I'll make that bastard Antonio pay."

Hayuki spent the next two weeks in physiotherapy, passing time between treatments, exams, and evaluations. The days dragged slowly. Time was marked by doctors' visits, X-rays, and physiotherapy tests.

TWO WEEKS LATER

After two weeks, Hayuki was transferred to a rehabilitation ward. There he began an exhausting cycle of exercises: walking slowly down the corridor, learning to turn his head without dizziness, breathing deeply without feeling his ribs burn.

Doctor: "Come on, good, another step, lift your leg higher."

Hayuki (thinking): "I can't give up, I can't give up, I have to make Antonio pay… I have to make that bastard pay."

ONE AND A HALF MONTHS LATER

Coach Steve: "Looks like you've had some rest, kid."

Hayuki: "Yeah… that bastard really messed me up, huh? Hahaha."

Hayuki: "Hmm… today the sky is grayer than usual… probably about to rain… better close the window."

Coach Steve: "Hayuki, we have the doctor's appointment later. Are you feeling okay?"

Hayuki is still at the hospital. He has almost fully recovered physically, but the psychological impact of the defeat still weighs heavily on him.

Coach Steve: "Are you alright?"

Hayuki: "Damn it… Damn it… DAMN IT… how is this possible… how did it happen… HOW HOW HOW HOW, HOW THE HELL DID I LOSE… WHY DID I LOSE, DAMN IT, I TRAINED SO HARD… I SACRIFICED SO MUCH… I WORKED MY BACK TO THE BONE TO WIN, SO WHY… WHY DID IT ALL GO WRONG…"

Hayuki: "Antonio… you'll pay for this… I swear…"

Coach Steve: "…"

(TIME FOR THE CHECK-UP)

Coach Steve: "Are you ready?"

Hayuki: "Come on, let's get this done fast and then get back to training. I have to make that bastard Antonio pay."

Coach Steve (thinking): "What an idiot."

Coach Steve: "Good morning, doctor."

Doctor: "Good morning."

Hayuki: "Good morning."

Doctor: "How are you feeling, kid? Better?"

Hayuki: "Fresh as a daisy, feeling more alive than ever."

Doctor: "Good, good… Hayuki, I got all the results from your tests and X-rays. First of all, I want you to know you were very lucky to be here. After the hits you took, the chance of permanent damage was very high, but you resisted well, congratulations."

Hayuki: "Thank you, doctor. I've always been told I have a hard head hahaha."

Coach Steve: "Shut up."

Hayuki: "Sorry…"

Hayuki: "So doctor, tell me… when can I start training again? Today? Tomorrow? In a week? Also, why do my hands tremble? Shouldn't it go away after a while?"

Hayuki: "And sometimes I feel pain behind my head."

Doctor: "Unfortunately, I have some bad news for you, Hayuki…"

Hayuki: "What do you mean?"

Doctor: "Unfortunately… you won't be able to practice kickboxing anymore."

Hayuki: "Eh?"
