When Doctor Alex arrived, Donald didn't say a word to either of us. He stood at the window staring at the both of us as the doctor kept checking my tummy with his hands, making me wince when I felt pain.
"I'll give you some medicine to stop the pain, but you need to rest fully. Do not lie on this side of your tummy; it is not a very critical situation, but you need to allow yourself to heal." I kept nodding my head, but my gaze was still fixed on Donald, who would not say a word.
"Look at me, Cassie." The doctor called my attention to himself as I slowly moved my gaze away from Donald to look at his face.
"When I say you need to rest, I also need you to relax your mind. "If you worry too much, it could affect your baby," he said to me, and for the first time since he arrived, I listened to everything he said without being distracted or looking away from him to Donald.
