Chapter 53 - Chapter 52: The Man, The Machine

It didn't take five minutes for me to arrive at its location, but I saw the familiar round object of Jason's drone flying high in the air, just out of sight from the base. I slowed down and floated next to him, staring at the base down below. Unlike the others, this one hasn't been attacked yet. I could see Russian Soldiers wandering around, standing guard, waiting for the inevitable attack from Arc and his New World Order.

"Glad to see you doing alright, kid, thank god for healing factors, eh?"

"Amen to that…now. This is great, a base that Arc hasn't ravaged yet. Still, I doubt they'll be willing to hand over the core willingly."

Jason's drone floated down and up, imitating a nod. I groaned, figures. While I could just charge in and kick everybody's butt and then take the core. Honestly, though, I'm getting tired of throwing punches and beating on soldiers. At least back in Canada, I help people too, I don't just beat the crap out of everyone committing felonies.

"What's the plan?"

"Your choice, you convince them or do it Solid Snake style, infiltrate the base."

I have no clue what a 'Solid Snake' is, but I guess I'll be sneaky. But then again, I could just do this…

Without waiting for Jason or Gavin to say anything else, I zoomed to the large building crashing inside, going through multiple walls before finally reaching the deepest part, where I dramatically slammed the floor in a heroic pose. Too bad nobody is here to see it, and too bad I can't stay in this pose for long, because just a millisecond later, the loud alarm rang everywhere. Crackers, would it kill the higher-ups to install an alarm sound that doesn't burst someone's eardrums? Machine gun turrets popped everywhere in the large room and began to shoot at me. I didn't bother defending myself as they bounced harmlessly off me.

Instead, I was focused on the object in front of me. That orb thing, that Arc managed to escape with, the last one. The energy source that could power a whole city for a hundred years. The last core that Arc needs to fuel the SURVIVOR Version 4. I've been fighting its lesser versions; the first and second ones were dealt with, though it wasn't easy.

But the leap to SV3 is huge. The fight with machines is significantly harder. If the third version was this powerful and took a lot of effort for me to beat, then I can't let Arc have this. I zoomed in on the object, the size of a truck. I grabbed and pulled off the wires, creating sparks. Now, I need to get away from here. I looked straight up the ceiling and fired my Optic blasts, melting the multiple floors before reaching the sky.

I melted the obstacles big enough for the core. I didn't want to accidentally slam this thing and make it explode. I remember flying to get here, seeing the aftermath of SM's explosion. If that small, tiny core of his heart could do this much damage, I don't want to find out how powerful this huge freaking thing is. I wouldn't be surprised that this might just destroy the entire country of Russia.

I flew high in the sky, being careful with the core. I could feel the soldiers scrambling to get inside. I felt one of them pointing at me, who had just exited out of the building, but I was outside their firing range. I slowed down once I reached Jason's drone. I gave him a grin.

"Ah, going for the GTA route. Not my first choice, but it works."

I have no clue what that is either, but regardless, I don't need to know. I asked Jason what to do next.

"Go back to Canada, back to my plane garage and place it there." Said Gavin.

"Without the final core, he wouldn't be able to activate the SV4; not only that, but it would be impossible for him to get it, since all of his resources and flying vehicles have all been destroyed. It leaves him open; the only thing you need to worry about is taking him out alongside his last general."

"Yeah, you're on the home stretch, kid, make us proud."

I nodded as my SEE Goggles showed me the way to return to Gavin's hangar. I kicked up and soared while carrying the core. A small smile crept up on his face. I'm doing it. I'm finally almost done with my mission. I just put the core to where Gavin's hanger is, then return to beat Arc. Granted, it's easier said than done, but I have a feeling the brawl with Arc will be my most challenging yet.

Still, I'm excited that this whole thing is almost over. I miss my family. It may have been only a day since I last saw them, but it doesn't change the fact that I wanted to return back home, to feel like a kid again. After seeing things no kid should have experienced, I'm eager to kick back and relax as I eat dinner my mom cooks up for me. I could see the ocean, just a few kilometres more before I left the lands of Russia!

Just then, my Mind's Eye was telling me that someone's silhouette was flying towards me, fast too! I didn't even get the chance to slow down or even turn my head as someone tackled me, hard.

"OOF!"

The sudden force caused me to drop the core. I shoved off the dude and tried to chase after the core, only for them to grab hold of my torn-up cape. Before I could even think of a counterattack, I was spun around in the air. Before they let go, sending my body zooming towards the ground, where I crashed into several trees, to the sand and into the ocean water. Who the heck was that!?

Once I recovered, I slowly levitated out of the water. To my relief, the core hasn't exploded; it lay on the sandy beach. The bad news, though, was this guy flying above me, looking me down with crossed arms.

"So you're the brat." A gruff voice came from the guy.

This person, it was a man fully covered in armour, though my SEE Goggles tells me that it isn't armour, it's his SKIN. There is barely anything human about him; the only thing that is organic is his blood and skeleton. But even his bones are somehow coated with titanium. Everything about him was mechanical. He was a cyborg all right, but he was more a machine than a man.

He glares at me with his glowing red eyes. His face or helmet, I don't really know, looked similar to the knight with all those oval holes on his mouth. His entire body was colored silver, with pieces such as his fingers being black. Like SM, the cyborg was flying through the thing, focused fire coming out of his boots.

"Crap, I knew you were going to run to him eventually, but…" Gavid says, his tone full of worry.

"Droid, the first Super-Soldier who is also a cyborg. And the physically strongest member of the New World Order, even surpassing Arc."

A guy who is even stronger than Arc. I felt my heart beat fast as I stared at this man-machine.

"What, I thought you liked to talk a lot?" He uncrosses his arm and clenches his fist; sparks of blue lightning appear for a second.

I steadied myself.

"It doesn't matter, I'll send your corpse to the ocean."

The droid flies higher into the air before it starts descending towards me at high speed.

"Be careful, here he comes!"
