Chapter 8 - Erevan

(A/N Big thank you to Talvin_Shinji, first ever Power Stone)

----------------------------------

'Over-dramatic much, Just come out already' Orion thought, exasperated by all the showboating.

The doors finally opened, and a dashing and regal man stepped out, silver hair like all the others framing a stone-cold face worth swooning over and cool silver eyes, if Orion's and Aurora's were the bright golden sun, then the patriarch's was the still penetrating moon. He wore a standard military uniform, albeit with all the aesthetics one would expect of a noble.

Erevan Chronos, Patriarch of the Chronos family, a name feared by many and respected by many more.

His eyes scanned through the welcoming entourage, stopping at shaw before given him a small imperceptible nod, then towards his wife and daughter, a wide smile forming on his face and finally his heir, he made no facial reaction when his eyes met with Orion's, everything simply stood still, his eyes accessing everything about him as though breaking down a threat.

Orion watched all his father's actions from when he got down from the carriage till when Erevan's eyes landed on him, to say he was nervous was a great understatement.

For some reason, he was terrified; those eyes gave him a cold sense of danger, and not the I'm going to die kind, it was the I'm never going to be enough kind.

He had never felt like this before; his past life had been fulfilling, he succeeded in whatever he ventured into, and he may not have been the best, but his achievements were almost always worth praising.

Like Erevan was reading Orion, Orion was doing the same. He could tell those eyes held an immense amount of expectations.

Though he was still terrified, he summoned the will to still his heart. No one had more expectations of him than he himself. What was he scared of? He'd started working on himself months before he even knew he had a father, fear wasn't going to change anything. He steadied his eyes and gazed back defiantly at his father.

Erevan immediately noticed the change in his son's gaze. He was surprised at first; his goal had been to test the amount of discomfort his son would feel from his gaze alone. Surprisingly, not only was his reaction little to nothing, but he actually recovered and stared back without backing down.

"Impressive," Erevan said with a wide and proud smile on his face.

'He's what-- a year old, and I can already see signs of intelligence, if his talent is as strong as his will and mind, he's going to be a menace, even greater than I am, a perfect heir. I can't wait for him to grow.'

He'd just seen his son today, and he'd already started planning his training and education.

Aurora could read what was going through her husband's mind through his minute facial reactions, and she was sure he was going to be ecstatic once he saw what she had seen.

Although she was worried about her baby's well-being and what he was going to go through, she knew it was a necessary evil; the world itself was a necessary evil after all.

"Daddy!" After a few minutes of battling with her inner demons, Lyrielle finally couldn't take it anymore, she ran towards her father with wide arms.

"Oh, if it isn't my little angel." Erevan quickly grabbed her with a wide smile, twirling her around while they laughed before finally placing her on his shoulder.

She laughed and ruffled his hair before her eyes landed on her mother's closed, smiling eye. She suddenly thought of what she'd done, her eyes opening wide.

"Put me down, put me down!" she exclaimed while patting her father's head.

Erevan was shocked, wondering what he had done wrong, but quickly obliged with her, setting her back on the ground.

Immediately, she was back on the ground. Lyrielle straightened her dress before performing a curtsy to her father. "Welcome back, father," She said with as much grace as she could muster.

Aurora nodded at her daughter's actions with a smile on her face.

Erevan watched all this happen before finally realizing what had just happened. He looked at his wife and saw the approving smile on her face. He just shook his head and smiled.

"Thank you, daughter, I trust you've been well behaved while I was absent," He replied, playing his part.

"Of course, father, mother, and Orion can testify," she quickly answered.

Erevan chuckled as he'd never seen this side of his daughter.

He walked towards his wife, kissed her on both cheeks, and her lips.

"And how are you, darling?" He asked with a bright smile.

"Happier knowing you are back, dear husband," She replied with an equally bright smile, her eyes burning with restraint, with what, only she could tell.

Erevan's eyes landed on Orion again, meeting those same bright golden eyes.

'Our ancestor reborn,' He thought.

The whole family soon began walking inside, their conversation flowing. It was mostly Lyrielle talking about her experiences with Orion.

Erevan listened to every word coming out of her mouth, especially those painting Orion in a rare intelligent light.

He was starting to get really curious about this first son of his.

From his first interaction with Orion, he could tell the boy was unusually bright. Not something one would expect of a one-year-old child.

Still, if anything, it was good news for the family; an intelligent heir, whether talented or not, could lead the Chronos family forward.

As they walked inside, an entourage of maids lined up with their heads bowed, greeting their patriarch.

Any ordinary person would have been flustered receiving such a welcome, not Erevan. By now, he was already used to attention; he wore it like a mantle on a daily basis, it was his responsibility after all.

Although Erevan walked with his head held high and a certain vigor, Aurora could see the faint signs of weariness in his eyes. He was most likely tired from his journey.

He was about to separate from the group; he'd been away for a while, and although Aurora must have assisted him, there were things only he could handle. He turned towards Shaw, the head butler.

"Shaw, meet me in my study," He told the butler.

"Certainly, master Erevan," Shaw replied before turning to Cordelia, who was among the bowing maids.

"Darling, I'm sure your responsibilities could wait for a bit, you've been travelling for weeks. You should take your time to rest, the paperwork isn't going anywhere." Aurora quickly stopped him before he could run off.

He was about to refuse before he saw the concern in her gaze and chose to comply.

"Very well, I guess I can start tomorrow," He said with a smile.

Aurora handed Orion to Isolde before leading her husband to his chambers.

Orion watched all this happen with curious eyes. The family dynamic was certainly intriguing to him. He watched how his mother transformed from a loving mother to a caring wife, an impressive skill any woman should possess.

'She reminds me of my mom on earth- I wonder how they are right now.'

He turned towards his sister- she had already returned to her stoic face.

'She's already getting the hang of it, I have a feeling I'm going to miss that excited and bubbly persona'

"Lyriiel… Lyriiel," He called out to her. His talking ability was getting better by the day, though he tried not to speak much as his baby tongue was quite embarrassing; he only used it when necessary to express his opinions.

Orion was trying to get a reaction out of her, and he succeeded; she turned toward him with a smile on her face.

'Yep, still got it,' he thought with a smug smile.

He soon started yawning, already tired of the day's events. Isolde noticed this and took him to Aurora's chambers, placing him in his crib. He fell asleep not long after.

Back in Erevan's chambers, Aurora took care of all her husband's needs while they shared their experience from their time apart.

Aurora told him about all that he'd missed, from Orion's birth to his unusual activities, and even what occurred last night.

When Erevan heard this, he was very shocked.

"What!. You shared a vision with him, that's impossible. On numerous levels, in fact," he exclaimed with eyes wide open.

"Fufufu.. It's quite rare to get such a reaction out of you, you must be very surprised," she giggled, amusement clearly written all over her face.

"Be serious, Aurora, are you absolutely certain about what you are telling me. He shared a vision of the future with you?" He asked again to confirm if his ears were playing tricks on him.

"My my, I'm offended, dear husband, why would I lie about such a thing. Not only did he share my vision, but his older counterpart also noticed my presence," She replied with certainty.

A conflicted expression appeared on Erevan's face, and Aurora could tell what he was thinking. On one hand, Orion was the first male to awaken the power of time since the first patriarch, making him truly unique.

And on the other hand, he wanted his son to awaken the power of space. The Chronos family's development on the power of space was unprecedented, and as his heir, he would have access to the best training methods.

Whereas time, on the other hand, was a bit tricky, its abilities weren't known for combat; in fact, about 80% of its abilities were probably still in the dark, and it wasn't without a reason.

The chronos family only had one time practitioner per generation, and all of them were females, with Aurora being the one from his generation.

Hearing his son awakened the power of time was concerning. As the heir, his combat ability had to be top-notch, but now he wasn't sure how to go about Orion's training.

"Who knows, he might awaken both affinities like the first patriarch," Aurora tried to be optimistic.

"You are right, whatever happens, though, we'll get through it together," He replied with a smile on his face.
