Chapter 59 - (A3) Bumping Into Someone Strange

The streets were full of life, with fishermen selling their stock near the beach. Many bad come to enjoy some kind of festivities and Max could hear people speak in different languages. They were languages that he hadn't heard of back in the old world, but still completely understood all of them, thanks to his Linguistics Power.

He heard someone talking to another guy, who appeared to be his boss as they were arguing about something. He saw a little girl tug on her dads pants, asking him to buy her a toy that she saw in a shop. And the fisherman selling their fish, in different languages, appealing to all the tourists. Even though the Tower was right there, everybody seemed to be enjoying their lives.

Max: Hmm...interesting....

Max then immediately turned to see his companions missing. He finally noticed them at a shop on the far corner, with Albert talking to an old man who was seated on a carpet on the floor. Max walked up to them.

Max: You could've atleast told me before you abandoned me.!!

Lin: It's your fault for not paying attention!! And why the hell are you acting like our babysitter??!

Max ignored him completely and saw that Albert was still having a conversation with the old man. It was in a different language and Max was surprised that Albert could speak it, as he had always believed that the only language Albert knew was English, based on his name.

Albert was asking the old man for some iron and a coating that prevents rust. The old man, who was smiling, was actually helpful pointing to the north and stated that there were shops ahead and he didn't have any. Albert nodded to this. Lin just stood behind him, his arms crossed, and the confusion was visible in his face.

Max: What happened?? Couldn't understand?

Lin turned to see Max, standing with a smug smile on his face, and was immediately annoyed.

Lin: Don't act high and mighty just because you can understand all languages!! You just have a power for that!!

Max nodded agreeing with him. He finally saw that he had no point in flexing his power in languages, as it was technically "unfair". And he was aware that, if he was in the old world, the only language he knew was English. He sucked at his Spanish tests, and barely could process the Tamil language that Vaishaali was teaching him.

Albert was done with the old man. He thanked him for the information and joined the other two.

Albert: Let's go..

Max's stomach instantly growled. He was still hungry, as they were being considerate with using the Dome's food supply. They wondered what would happen if they emptied the freezer and then some people wake up from the pods. Even though they had the right to use it, Max's conscience knew they never deserved it. So they had been eating minimally, and hunting for food as usual.

Max: Man...I'm hungry!!!

Lin: Well...I see a restaurant up ahead..

Lin pointed at a strange little building with windows facing the street. The windows were huge allowing light to get in. There were a large number of tables and chairs, and people were seated everywhere. Max was insane happy as he smelled something delicious. He began walking towards the store, but immediately stopped in his tracks.

Max: Wait!!! How do we pay them..??? Do we have any sort of money????!?!??!?

Lin sighed at the blank faced Max. Albert put his hands inside his yukata and pulled out a tiny pouch bag. The sound of coins inside was incredibly audible.

Albert: I have some with me...

Max: And you've been somehow fighting with that in your clothes all this time??!! How is it even possible??

Max was rather surprised on how he had a pouch that defied gravity. Lin also pulled out a purse like thing, way too girly for him.

Lin: I have some money with me that Melissa gave me- why are you smiling that??

Max was smiling at him. It was a weird, teasing smile and Max neared Lin.

Max: Ohhh...I seee...did mommy Melissa give you some pocket money kid?? Is that how it is, baby boy??!

Max started teasing him, and it ended with Lin punching him in the face angrily.

Lin: Shut up!

Max: Okay, Captain Pink-Purse!!

They started walking towards the restaurant which was a few hundred meters away. Max had his arms crossed, above his head and he questioned Albert.

Max: How come you knew the language of that old man..?

Albert: Oh, you mean Scrollin?? It's something I picked up during my years of travels. It's absolutely necessary you know..

Max: I mean..yeah, you are right about that..

As they kept walking, they bumped into an old woman. It was the same old woman that was watching them from the edge of the town.

Max: Oh, sorry about that..

Lin: Watch where you are going, you old hag!!

Max: Lin!!!!!! Stop it!

He turned towards the short granny who was standing still, smiling, looking at Max's eyes.

Max: Are you okay, Miss??

Max smiled kindly, asking for the old women's safety. She looked at her legs and realized she was still standing. She immediately jumped and fell down and started crying.

Max: Hhhhhhheeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhh??????? What? What the hell??

The granny started rolling on the road, side to side, holding her right knee. Her eyes were filled with tears and she looked at Max.

Granny: How dare you!!! Ohhhhhh- will no one ask for justice?? This young blue eyed man pushed me to kill me!! Oh- will no one help me??

Max: I did WHAT??

Everyone across the street looked at Max. They had the expression of disgust in their eyes.

Max: Wait what?? No no guys!! I didn't push her!! She literally just jumped!!

As Max was desperately trying to prove his innocence, the granny screamed even louder, blocking out most of his plea.

Max: Come on, guys!! Help me out, will ya??

Albert nodded.

Albert: You are right...there was no impact from you. She just suddenly jumped and fell down.

Max: Bro, you serious?? No one can bear you!!! Even I couldn't!! Lin!!

He turned to Lin, hoping for help, but he was extremely disturbed to see Lin standing with a mocking smile. He then spoke with a loud voice.

Lin: OH NO MAX!! THAT'S VERY WRONG OF YOU TO PUSH AN OLD LADY TO THE GROUND!! OH MY, THE POOR LADY!

Max: Why you!!???

Max knew that Lin was just taking sweet old revenge. He then turned to the still tossing and turning granny.

Granny: Oh no!! This evil boy hurt me!+! He is very strong!!

Max: What are you playing at, you hag!!

Lin: Now, now, Max. Don't call her that. Stop behaving like a barbarian!!

Max: You shut up!!

Max then suddenly saw the silence and looked at the old woman. She was silent. She got on her knees, and looked directly at him, tears in her eyes.

Granny: Apologise now!!

Max wanted to argue, but he saw the townsfolk still glaring at him. He then sighed, realizing he can't prove his innocence.

Max: I'm sorry...

The granny immeizteky wiped her tears and smiled brightly.

Granny: Well, that's that then...bye bye!!

And the granny just jogged away from him into the crowd.

Max: What the hell!!!???

Max had readied himself to hit the grandma, but were stopped by Lin and Albert holding him back. The woman, turned back at him and smiled once again.

Granny: If you ever need a Tarot reading kid, stop by my shop....you Silent Angel.

Saying that, she immediately disappeared into the crowd. Some of the people in the crowd gasped after hearing that name, but most looked confused.

Max: Silent Angel...??
