Chapter 17 - Between the Confrontation and the Rain

One quiet night, after Emma had left on her trip, Victor sat alone in his study, surrounded by memories that pulled at his mind. Questions without answers haunted him, and the heavy feeling of emptiness weighed on his chest. As he tried to organize his thoughts, a message from Clara lit up his phone. She was asking to meet in a public place—to clear the air.

Despite his hesitation, he agreed—determined to close this chapter once and for all.

At a Café Near Victor's Home

Victor sat by a window, waiting. A few minutes later, Clara arrived—dressed elegantly, her face painted with a fake smile.

Clara (with a seductive smile): "Didn't expect you to say yes so easily, Victor."

Victor (serious tone): "I'm only here to end this, Clara. There's nothing left between us."

Clara took a seat, set her purse aside, and spoke with a voice full of forced drama.

Clara: "Victor, I just wanted to get back what we had. We were great together. I can't accept you ignoring me like this."

Victor (calm but firm): "Clara, what we had ended years ago. We both agreed to move on. I haven't changed my mind."

Clara (sighing angrily): "But I didn't move on, Victor. I've thought about you all this time. I know there's still something between us—just let yourself remember..."

He cut her off, locking eyes with her.

Victor (firm): "All I feel now is the need to end this chaos. You're the one who brought the past back up, but it changes nothing. I don't love you, Clara. I never will again. What we had was a mistake, and I won't let you ruin what I'm trying to build now."

Clara (faking innocence): "Is this because of Emma? Do you really think she can give you what I did?"

Victor (confident): "Emma doesn't have to prove anything. She makes me feel like a better man—something you never did, because you always cared only about yourself."

Her expression dropped. His words hit like a slap. She tried to hold herself together, but she knew it was over.

Clara (with a lump in her throat): "Fine. If that's what you want, I won't bother you again."

Victor (coldly): "I hope you mean it this time. Because I won't give you another chance."

He stood up and walked away without looking back, leaving her alone—realizing the game was over and her place in his life was gone for good.

The Next Day – In Victor's Study

After the confrontation, Victor returned to his study, weighed down by guilt and anxiety. Emma's absence had become a nightmare echoing in every corner of his mind. In an attempt to escape the solitude, he met with his friend Mike—someone who had always been close to Emma.

Mike walked in with a file in hand, speaking about work. But Victor barely listened.

Mike: "Victor, are you even here? You seem totally out of it."

Victor (softly): "I can't stop thinking about her, Mike. Emma... she's gone, and nothing feels right."

Mike (hesitating): "Emma just needs some time. Maybe the pressure got too much."

Just then, Mike's phone rang. He answered cheerfully:

Mike: "Hey, Emma! How are you?"

Victor froze. At the sound of her name, everything else blurred. Without thinking, he reached out and took the phone from Mike.

Victor (voice shaking): "Emma? Can you hear me?"

Emma (shocked): "Victor? How did you get the phone?"

Victor: "Emma, I need to see you. Please. I have to explain... everything."

She hesitated but sensed the honesty in his voice. She told him where she was—but emotionally, she still held a distance.

Days Later – A Small Park

Emma sat on a wooden bench, reading a book, trying to distract herself from the whirlwind of thoughts. Suddenly, Victor appeared before her—soaked in rain, but eyes fixed on hers.

Emma (surprised): "Victor? What are you doing here?"

Victor (emotionally): "I came looking for you, Emma. I can't do this without you."

Emma (hesitant): "Victor, I told you I needed time..."

Victor (interrupting): "And I gave it to you. But my heart couldn't wait any longer. Emma, I love you. With everything I have. Please, don't walk away from me again."

Rain poured harder, but Victor didn't care. He stepped closer, gently lifted her chin, and stared into her teary eyes.

Victor (softly): "I'm willing to do anything to prove it to you."

He leaned in—closer and closer—until their faces were only inches apart. His breath brushed her skin, sending a wave of calm through her.

Victor (whispering): "You've always been here... in every moment, every breath. And now, I've finally found you."

Before she could reply, his lips touched hers in a gentle kiss. It held every unspoken question, every long-awaited answer, every second they'd missed.

Emma's hands wrapped around his neck, feeling warmth bloom inside her. In that moment, time stopped. The world around them faded, and all that remained... was the kiss.
