Meanwhile, Clara wasn't done.
She was determined to drive an even deeper wedge between Victor and Emma.
At a major social event where Emma was invited to perform as part of an artistic celebration, Clara made sure to arrive with Victor in a way that would not go unnoticed.
Throughout the evening, Clara made a point of speaking loudly and affectionately to Victor, laughing a little too much and resting her hand on his shoulder every now and then. The sight didn't escape Emma, who stood at a distance, quietly observing the scene unfold.
Emma tried to stay composed, but it felt like the walls of the venue were slowly closing in around her. Her eyes met Victor's now and then, but she would quickly look away, pretending not to care—even when everything inside her was screaming.
As the event came to an end and Emma was preparing to leave, Clara followed her in a suspiciously casual manner.
Clara: (with a fake sweet smile)
"Emma, I suppose by now you've realized just how special my relationship with Victor is.
I just thought I'd make sure you knew—because I really hate when people... misunderstand things."
Emma felt like she'd been hit with a double blow. She knew Clara was provoking her on purpose, but she wasn't sure how to respond without revealing just how much it stung.
Emma: (with quiet defiance)
"Oh, don't worry, Clara. If there's anything worth knowing,
I'm sure Victor will tell me himself. But... thanks for the concern."
Clara paused, clearly not expecting such a steady response.
She gave a faint, unreadable smile and walked away—but Emma knew this wasn't the end of it. Not even close.
Victor had noticed something off about Emma during the event.
She was distant, guarded—almost like she was keeping herself locked behind an invisible wall.
He didn't want to leave things that way.
He decided he would talk to her the next day,
tell her the truth about his connection with Clara,
and reassure her...
before she started to believe in the wrong version of their story.
