Ritika's home was buzzing and rushing to arrange everything perfectly as boy's family coming to see her for marriage. Her mother applying face pack on her, while she silently stare straight in mirror, her face smeared with yellow paste. Her mother fussing over her for something so common for her...her dark skin. Ritika's eyes went glossy with tears but she remained lost and quiet.
The boy's family came and settled, greeting. After some chit chat they ask to meet the Ritika. She came out with tray of snacks. She was feeling so nervous, looking down. She kept the tray on table and greeted sitting down. The elderly lady exchange glance with her husband. Ritika's mother worriedly looked at her husband, who moved his head slowly in no.
They asked formal questions to Ritika and then after sometime took their leave saying they'll tell later about their decision, after thinking. They went and Ritika's father inhaled leaving the room. Ritika's mother followed him murmuring again a proposal will reject their daughter. Ritika silently went to her room, vision blurred with tears.
Ritika's pov
Hey Ritika here. No need to feel simpathy for me, I'm used to it. My dusky skin and chubby body make others think that's I'm ugly and now I guess I think the same too. Why even god made me like this. My own parents see me as burden. No one wants to marry me. People around me treat me like this since childhood. My mother applying beauty products on me,my schoolmates used to bully me and now in college, the conditions are same. In my whole life of 21 years I've never been treated right...
Ritika's pov ends
Next morning
Ritika got ready for her college and left without breakfast, coz she has no energy left to hear more taunts of her mother.
As she reached college, she staight away went to class. She sits on last bench to avoid people's attention. The first lecture went okay. In the second lecture, Ritika noticed she forgot her notes copy at home. She got scared as her professor is really strict. When the half lecture passed, some girl reminded professor for checking notes copy. Ritika eyes went wide in fear. When her chance came, professor looked at her empty bench.
Professor - Where's your notes?
Rits - Mam, I...I think I forgot it at home...
Professor - How? How you forgot? Student who study daily at home, doesn't forgot. Seems like you aren't interested in study seriously.
Rits - No mam... actual--
Professor - Excuses... that's what you all know to give. Get out of the class !!
Ritika with her head hung low, left the class. Some students' faint laugh muffled behind. She stood outside, blinking rapid to avoid crying. Her throat hurted but she silently stood.
Too much in one life...
That's what Ritika thought. But but but...The real trouble was still on their way !!!
