Chapter 98 - The Great Closet Escape Fail
AVERY >< ><
Peeking through that tiny goddamn hole in the closet door was like watching a slow-motion train wreck, and I was the idiot passenger strapped in for the ride.
There she was—Mrs. Loretta, striding toward the closet like she owned the place.
My heart was doing somersaults, pounding so hard I swear it was gonna bruise my ribs.
Shit, why couldn't this woman just mind her own business for once?
"Come on, Lucien, you dumbo," I whispered to myself, my voice barely a breath. "Do something! Distract her, trip her, hell, start dancing the Macarena if you have to—just get her away from here!"
I was mentally screaming at him, willing him to read my mind through the wood.
If only telepathy was a thing... I'd be yelling, "Save my ass, you bastard!"
My face wasn't the only thing sweaty now—oh no, my whole body had decided to join the party.
Even my ass was as sweaty as my forehead, like I'd sat in a puddle of my own panic.
