Chapter 97 - Closet Catastrophe
LUCIEN >< ><
I swear, I've never prayed this hard in my entire damn life.
The moment that weird noise came from the closet, I felt my heart drop into my stomach. My mother's head snapped toward it like a hawk spotting a mouse. Meanwhile, I was already sweating bullets.
"Please don't be Avery," I muttered silently, feeling my pulse slam against my throat. "Please don't fucking be Avery. I'll take a rat, I swear. I'll take a whole damn family of rats. Hell, I'll build them a nest myself if it keeps her from finding him."
Because, of course, that stupid bastard had to make noise.
Why the hell can't he ever stay still? Can't he just shut the fuck up for once?
My mom took a cautious step toward the sound, her eyes narrowing suspiciously. I panicked and tried to distract her.
"Uh, Mom!" I blurted, stepping in front of her. "You—you were saying something? About dinner? Or—or your hair? It looks nice today."
