MHGA Chapter 272 – The Hunters' Future Plans

Back at the canteen after most of the hunters had returned from Night City, the large monitor was playing the recorded footage of the battle between Himmel and the Kirin.

Filming by: Joseph Joestar.

Editing by: Kairo Retsu…

Himmel was watching his dashing combat footage with a hint of vanity, already imagining showing off his heroic fight against Kirin to Frieren when he eventually brought her to the Gathering Hub.

"Damn it, so cool!" Kazuma glared at the screen with envy and resentment. "Why don't I ever get a moment of glory like that… I want to see my own gallant figure on the big screen too!"

"Can't be helped. I hadn't awakened my Stand yet back then," said Joseph casually, shrugging. "Maybe next time!"

"The hunters really worked hard this time," said Granny Felyne kindly, bringing out a large pot of creamy stew from the kitchen and placing it on the canteen's round table. "It's just… we didn't really have a proper victory feast this time."

"Yeah, it wasn't exactly a good idea to throw a party in Night City, so we had to settle for a small one," Kairo Retsu said with a helpless sigh. "In the end, Raizen Arasaka was the one who picked up the tab. Honestly, I think this celebration was even better than Laios's…"

"What?! Are you saying my feast wasn't good?!" Laios froze mid-bite, shocked. "You looked like you were enjoying yourself back then, Guildmaster! I thought you really liked it!"

"Taste is one thing! What it was is another! Don't forget, I was eating that monster carcass you left behind!" Kairo said righteously. "Flavor's flavor—doesn't mean it wasn't weird!"

"Oh, as long as it tastes good!" Laios was satisfied and went back to devouring his creamy stew.

Nearby, Shirou Emiya, famous in the Fate series as a top-tier cook, listened in with increasing anxiety.

What… bizarre things had the hunters been eating before he arrived?

Worried, Shirou also grabbed a bowl of Granny Felyne's stew—only to find it surprisingly delicious. He quickly started asking her for the recipe, eager to expand his culinary skills.

"The prize I'm most proud of this time—this Kirin horn!!" Kairo suddenly declared at the table, pulling out the broken Kirin horn. It still sparked faintly with lightning, shining like a mythical treasure.

"Oi!!! I remember you gnawing on that thing with your teeth! Did you even wipe your drool off it?!" Kazuma yelled.

"I already cleaned it!" Kairo glared at him, then continued seriously. "Anyway, it's thanks to Himmel that we managed to take down the Kirin… but!"

His expression turned serious.

"We need to seriously work on improving our own strength."

"I agree," said Naofumi Iwatani. "Elder Dragons… We may end up facing even more dangerous monsters. If we stay as we are, we'll hit a wall."

Naofumi used a game-like phrase: "We'll get stuck at a bottleneck."

"We can't keep relying on powerful hunters like Himmel forever. Strength we build ourselves is what we can truly trust."

Naofumi spoke from experience.

"If you're willing," said Himmel, "I can help you all improve your combat techniques. It's been years since I defeated the Demon King, but luckily I haven't forgotten everything."

"And next! I'd like to raise a proposal!" Kairo Retsu announced. "It's time for us to upgrade our equipment. We can't keep fighting in Low Rank gear made from monster scraps."

The mention of gear immediately drew everyone's attention.

Kairo continued, "I've already confirmed with the Felyne blacksmith about the Kirin materials."

"Because Kirin is small in size, there isn't enough material to craft a full Master Rank set. But with careful cutting and processing, we can make about three High Rank sets."

He said seriously, "No question about it—the MVP of the Kirin hunt should get one of those sets. That means Himmel."

Himmel waved it off. "No need. I'd rather leave it for—"

Before he could finish, Kairo cut him off. "One of the male Kirin armor variants looks incredibly cool—wild yet refined. Perfect for showing off to the ladies…"

"—Then let me have it. I'll wear it to inspire future hunters to strive for greatness!" Himmel changed his stance without hesitation.

"As for the other two High Rank Kirin sets, I'll leave them stored at the Gathering Hub to be used during emergencies," said Kairo. "Even if they're downgraded to High Rank, armor made from Elder Dragon materials is still stronger than normal High Rank gear."

"As for us," Kairo raised a thumbs-up, "it's time to start hunting monsters ourselves and crafting our own gear!"

"Let's work hard and get everyone suited up in brand-new High Rank armor!"

"Ehh… but Low Rank stuff was already fine… and it looks pretty cool too…" Kazuma muttered quietly, clearly trying to slack off.

Then Kairo leaned in close and said, "Mr. Kazuma, you wouldn't want to be one of the first hunters in the Hub, only to have the newbies wearing better armor while you're still in the gear supplied by the Felynes, would you…"

"Just imagine Aqua finding out, then reporting this to Darkness and Megumin in your own world…"

"You bastard…" Kazuma's forehead veins bulged as he pictured it.

No way! That can't happen!!! They'd mock him for the rest of his life!!!

"Great! Settled then!" Kairo declared. "Let's eat!!"

"Wonder when we'll see new recruits or major quests again…" Kairo muttered as he joined the rush to grab Granny Felyne's food.

Meanwhile, Joseph clenched his fists—clearly having made some sort of resolution.

"Now… I should be strong enough to change fate…"
