MHGA Chapter 178 – "Grave Robber" Himmel

Kairo Retsu quickly saw the three new Hunters off, reminding them repeatedly to come back to the Gathering Hub when they had time to choose their new weapons.

"We've just opened a new training ground—The Arena. If you've got the time, be sure to come give it a try!"

He added with a grin, "And don't forget to eat more Felyne Meals! They'll make your body stronger!"

Once most people had left, only a few remained in the Hub.

Eventually, it was just Kairo and Joseph sitting together, passing the time by studying the Arena's mechanics.

"The Arena, huh…" Joseph muttered as he read over the manual Kairo had written, scratching his head. "After accepting an Arena Quest, you fight monsters inside… What are these coins?"

"Basically," Kairo explained while scratching his own head, "they're proof of your skill—rewarded after battles. I confirmed it with the Felynes—items, equipment, and even the number of carts are restricted. If you succeed in the Arena, you can trade those coins with the Felynes for special materials or forge unique weapons."

"My beloved Heavenly Blade: Peerless Twin Sabers is just waiting for me at the Felyne vendor!"

Kairo spoke with a bright, hopeful smile.

"Heavenly Blade what now?" Joseph frowned, clearly baffled.

"Heavenly Blade: Peerless Twin Sabers!" Kairo gave a thumbs-up. "But the materials needed… we can't get them yet. Someday, though. I'll play with them for sure."

"Well, the Arena's perfect for letting new Hunters find the weapons that suit them best." Kairo added, "Speaking of which, I still need to give them weapon recommendations…"

"For Rakuro? Dual Blades or Sword & Shield, of course. Agile weapons suit him better. He could probably handle other light weapons too."

"Himmel… Someone of his caliber doesn't need me picking weapons for him." Kairo nodded. "As things stand now, all the other Hunters combined might not be able to take him down… I'll still give him some suggestions! Oh, right—I want to ask him to help train our Hunters! Especially those of us who aren't good at fighting—like me and Kazuma…"

"Shirou…" Kairo rubbed his chin, mumbling, "Dual Blades? Bows? He's got tons of potential—he should try everything…"

While Kairo was muttering away, Joseph suddenly spoke up: "Guildmaster, there's something I want to say."

"Hm?" Kairo turned to him. "What is it?"

"After this next mission, I plan to return home and deal with Kars," Joseph said, raising his hand.

The Hermit Purple vines, invisible to Kairo, coiled around Joseph's hand, and Ripple energy flowed naturally through his Stand.

The ability to channel Ripple through his Stand—that was Joseph's greatest surprise.

Combined with the Stand's invisibility to normal people, Joseph finally felt like he had a chance to change the fate of those doomed to die.

No longer leaving everything to luck—he would fight fate directly.

Even if, as Kairo had said, fate in his world was notoriously hard to overcome.

"Guildmaster, I'd like to learn more about Stands," Joseph continued. "And… the later parts of the story—JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Do you have time?"

Kairo grinned. "Of course I do! I love sharing my favorite series with others!"

"Let's start with the story of your grandson." Kairo smiled. "The last vestiges of the Ripple Era…"

Meanwhile…

When Himmel left the Gathering Hub and returned to his world, something unexpected occurred.

The moment he arrived, he was plunged into darkness, his surroundings cramped and confining—and there was something in his hand.

"…Hmm?"

Himmel, puzzled, reached out and touched a wooden board… only then did he realize—

He was lying inside a coffin.

His own coffin.

"Well… this is a problem," Himmel murmured with a wry smile, but he began making his way out.

Back at the Hub, during the story watch session, he had eaten some of Granny Felyne's food. Now, his body felt surprisingly limber—like his joints and muscles had loosened up.

"In that case…"

Himmel pressed his hands against the coffin lid and used a bit more strength, punching open a sizable hole. Dirt began cascading in from above.

He took a deep breath, then held it as he burrowed upward through the newly formed tunnel—until he reached a stone slab covering the grave.

His body felt full of strength. Himmel easily pushed the slab aside and climbed out of the grave—still holding his fake Hero's Sword.

"What a… well-kept grave," Himmel said, smiling as he looked around.

It wasn't ornate, but it had clearly been maintained with care—clean, tidy, and decorated with numerous flowers.

But now… there was a massive hole on top of it.

The one he had just dug out.

"Good thing it's nighttime," Himmel looked around cautiously.

Since it was dark, no one had seen him yet. He crouched down and began trying to restore the grave's appearance.

After all, if news of his resurrection spread, it could cause a huge uproar.

After seeing Frieren's story, the only thing on Himmel's mind now was finding her as quickly as possible.

No matter where the path led from here, he was determined to follow it…

But just as he began pushing the dirt back and preparing to seal the stone slab—

A furious shout rang out behind him:

"HEY, YOU THERE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"

"…No helping it. Guess I'll have to explain things properly."

Himmel sighed and turned to face them—ready to explain his resurrection.

But the people charging toward him, brandishing lamps and weapons, weren't about to wait.

"There's a bastard robbing the Hero's grave!! Blue-haired middle-aged man! Don't let him escape!!"

"Wait, what?" Himmel raised his hands in shock—only then noticing something strange.

His hands… looked younger?

No—forget that!

They thought he was a grave robber!!
