Chapter 3
Eva woke up. Last night was too stressful ,she can't helped sleeping off on her desk . She prepared for work . She sighted a shadow at the window. She was alarmed,she pulled the curtains aside but saw no one . She then took her rbag , locked the door. She thought her mind was playing games with her . She turned the car and drove off .
" Good morning Kate "
" Nice morning to you pretty"
" Where's the boss "
" He's off today remember "
" Oh ! I forgot " she said
" So what's up you going to the party "
" Yeah I'm going ".
" Guess what ? " she said archly
" Hmm , your ditched " .
" Nope ,the opposite of that " She replied .
" You've got a date "
" Yeah ,you got me " she cheered.
" Wow ,congrats "
" Eva get yourself hooked up ,why don't you want to ?"
" Relationship is not meant for me ,so darling perish the thought !"
" No no no ..... I won't forget it infact , I will get you hooked up " She insisted . She was about to argue ,when they were interrupted by clients .She kept her cool as they attended to them . Eric entered the office ,he stood among the queue until it was his turn.
" Miss Eva ? " he asked .
"Yes ,how can I help you? "
" I'm Harris Joans from the national insurance company."
" Thank you , he replied with an alluring smile. "
Eva lead him to a neatly laid out office they sat down on the couch.
" So how can I help you , Mr Harris " .
" Harris please " he interrupted.
" Okay Harris, you said you're from the national insurance company" .She asked .
" Yes , the company has decided to join hands with company. This is due to the prosperity of your company ". he explained further before she answered.
" Wow ! It's a negotiable offer but ,am afraid Mr Kelly is off today . You can check in tomorrow."
" It's okay ,can you take me through the insurance process steps ? "
Eva explained as he listens , Eric's mind wandered off . His eyes cooly appraised the young woman before him . He gazed at her with pure adoration.
" You're staring"
" I'm sorry "
" It's okay , my job is here is done "
" Thanks you " he replied.
" It's my pleasure Harris " .
Eric left the insurance company with mixed feelings . He did his best to avert being suspicious. Eva continued her work , though she glanced up when ,he left the office .
" He's hot " Kate said from her back .
" Who ? " she asked .
" The agent you talked with "
" Maybe , I thought you have a date " Eva asked .
" You're running away from this discussion "
" I'm not" she protested .
" Alright well I still think you should get yourself hooked up " .
" Kate please !!! drop it !!! ' Eva begged .
Kate shrugged " If you insist "
Eva spent the night at Kate's . They both prepared for the party , they drove off to the party . When they arrived , Kate went off the bar to have a few drinks.
" Scotch please " she requested .
When the drink came , she relaxed to drink. Then , she sighted Mr Harris the agent. She tried to avoid him ,then Mr Harris looked up at her . He walked up with a tall blonde on his arm . He appeared a perfectly normal person.
" Hi ,Mr Harris" .
" Eva , how are you doing ? " he asked .
" Good , nice to meet you ".
" It's my pleasure " he replied.
They were interrupted by the tall blonde who ,pushed Eva aside and sat down on Eric's legs. " What an attitude " Eva muttered and went away . Eric bent over the blonde's ear and whispered something . After a while the blonde stood up and stalked off . Eric ran after Eva .
" Eva , wait sorry about that okay" he said
She shook him off .
" It's okay , she thought I was taking the glow ".
" Why would you say that ? " he asked .
" If it's me , I would probably do the same " She replied.
After a moment of silence ,they went back to the bar .
" Eva , be my date for the night ' he broke the silence.
" W -w - what ? " She stammered.
" Be my date " he repeated .
" Nope "
" Why ? " he asked.
" I'm not interested " she said though ,she felt am immediate attraction for him .
" Just for the night" he persuaded.
" Never not happening" She resented his persistence approaches . Eric stared he down . She was arrayed in a black velvet gown . Not wishing to antagonize her further, He said no more. Eva's eyes twinkled in amusement as Kate came over with her date .
" Harris ! you came " she addressed Eric .
" Hi ! nice to see you again." he replied
" This is my date , David and you already know my friend Eva " . Kate added.
" Hi David , nice to meet you " Eric said talking his hand .
" You too , it's my pleasure" he replied.
" Kate ? " Eva called .
" Oh , I'm so sorry darling . I forgot you're here " .
" David , this is my partner Eva "
" Thank you " he replied
" Kate ,how do you know ,Mr Harris that much " Eva asked.
" After he left the office ,I spoke with him and I asked him to come to the party . She responded.
