Chapter 1 - First Encounter

Katrina is an eighteen years old Latina who was raised by both her parents and grew up with her two younger siblings. She was the apple of her parents' eyes and her younger siblings looked up to her.

Walking through the school campus, Katrina took deep breaths and smiled.

"You can do this Kat. Not every first day of school sucks. Plus, we're all just freshmen, for now."

On the 14th of July, Hampton University was packed with freshmen, bustling with energy and excitement and ready to embark on their new journey. It was the first day of orientation for all the first-year students and it was expected to last for about a week. Katrina didn't have many friends growing up and her one true friend had to go to a different school because of her overly controlling parents. Now walking alone through the school campus, she wished nothing but to have her best friend beside her boosting her confidence.

"Excuse me, do you know where the hall is?"

Katrina looked back because of the gentle tap on her shoulder and soft male voice she heard behind her.

"I'm sorry. I'm Kendin Kingsley, but my friends call me Ken"

Said Kendin with an extended hand

"Hey, I'm Katrina and my friends call me Kat. And yeah, I know where the hall is. Wanna walk with me?"

"Sure. Why not?"

With Katrina taking the lead, the two walked towards the school hall.

"So how do you know where the hall is? Isn't this the first day of school for all of us?"

"How do you not know where the hall is? Didn't you walk around this campus at all when you came to collect your admission letter? Cause that's what most people and I did."

"Right. Well, my elder brother came to collect my letter of admission so I couldn't exactly give myself a little tour like you guys did."

"That makes sense"

The two kept on chitchatting till they arrived at the hall where most students were already gathered outside in groups. Most of them seemed like really good friends, which might have been because they were from the same high school, home town or lived in the same apartments. Katrina looked at Kendin beside her, he was a white boy with curly short hair. He looked like he was 18 and he reminded Katrina of her 16 years old brother.

"By the way, where are your friends?" Asked Katrina looking intensely at Kendin.

"Most of them were not accepted. Even my best friend but some might be coming here right now." Kendin replied, not looking away from what he was looking at.

Katrina traced his line of sight which landed on a group of boys.

"Do you know them?"

"See that boy in black stripped jeans and a black hoodie? He is my soulmate. He just doesn't know it yet." He smiled

"What? Wait, you're..."

"Yeah, I'm gay. And that guy's gonna fall in love with me." Kendin cut her off with a grin on his face.

"Alright freshmen! I'm gonna open these doors right now and when you get in this hall you're expected to be on your best behavior. Don't break anything! Do I make myself clear!?" A voice said from the door and because of how powerful it was, all the students stopped talking and put their undivided attention on her.

Not making room for objections, the lady in her early 40s signaled with her two hands for the big men to open the door. After getting access to the hall, the students quietly followed the lady inside.

While the freshmen orientation commenced, Tiana got off the cab she rode to the school campus and made her way to the lecturer's residents. After successfully gaining access to her apartment, she pushed her luggage to her bedroom and jumped on the bed. Tiana Meyers is a twenty six years old Psychology lecturer. She is said to be the youngest lecturer in the history of Hamptton University. She got her Masters Degree at the age of twenty and was a high school teacher for two years before she got her Doctrate. Before the comppletion of that Doctrate, she was poached by a few Universities for a lecturing position but she chose to stick with Hampton as she was already a student there. She now has a year's experience as a Psychology lecturer.

After sitting four hours on a flight from home and thirty minutes on a cab, she wanted nothing more than sleep but remembering that she has to call her parents and tell them she arrived safe, she dragged her feet up and made the call through the apartment's home telephone, as per her dad's orders. After making the call she returned to the bed and within a few minutes, her breath had started to even as she slept.
