Chapter 12 - Dragon’s Mountain

In an instant, Sylph walks out of the room and sees the body and Jin sitting there.

"Um, Jin, what happened out here?"

"I'm a wanted criminal. I killed a human lord for enslaving a bunch of women."

"So you did the right thing?"

"I don't know."

"You said that this lord was enslaving women. As far as I know, slavery is wrong and should be outlawed."

"That's what I thought. But the guy wanted a fight and left me no choice but to kill him."

Sylph bends down in front of him.

"So you're a hero. What's so bad about that?"

"I'm wanted for murder."

"I can deal with that, don't you worry."

Sylph stands up and pulls Jin up with her.

"I understand the sacrifices heroes make to be heroes. My dad was one of them."

Jin looks at her, a look of sorrow and sincerity on his face.

"What did he sacrifice?"

"He sacrificed the well-being of the family. All because he wanted the world to be better."

"Doesn't seem like he succeeded."

"He's still working to better the world. That's why I'm here with you."

"Is that so? I just thought you were a noble princess."

Sylph's face widens in shock.

"What!? No, I'm no princess," Sylph says nervously.

"Whatever you gotta tell yourself."

Sylph helps Jin stand up. Jin then turns to the counter. A petrified woman was still sitting there, terrified of what she had witnessed.

Jin places a gold coin on the counter.

The woman flinched as he approached, her eyes wide with terror. Jin paused, then slowly placed a gold coin on the counter.

"Sorry for the mess," he said softly.

She didn't answer. She only nodded, clutching the edge of the table like it might save her.

Jin walks to the door, Sylph hot on his heels. The two walk out and turn North.

"Well, Sylph, you ready?"

"Let's do this, Jin!"

The two start walking towards the mountains.

The two play around, pushing each other around, walking through fields, a beautiful orange sun glaring upon them.

Both Jin and Sylph are laughing and smiling, jumping around together.

"Who knew you, of all people, could be so fun to be around, Jin?"

Jin makes a small laugh and lightly pushes Sylph.

"Oh, shut up!"

Abruptly, the two stop in front of a stone path.

"Well, this looks like the path," Jin says, poking at Sylph.

"Yeah, this is it," Sylph says, looking nervous.

Jin steps forward onto the path. Two dragon head statues are carved onto both sides of the entrance to the path.

"Looks like the Dragon Spirits know their aesthetic."

Sylph stared at the stone dragons. She didn't move.

Jin turned and held out his hand. "No need to be nervous. I'm here, and I am the greatest."

She laughed nervously, then took his hand. "You're such a weirdo, Jin."

"From here on out," Sylph whispered, "we walk into the land of legends. And they don't like visitors."
