Cherreads

Chapter 22 - Chapter 22

The massive Hidden Mist Technique performed by Yagura reduced visibility to almost zero—making it especially disadvantageous for the Sharingan. Obito, formerly Yamato Arata who had transmigrated into Uchiha Obito's body, knew he had to disperse the mist first.

From the scrolls left behind by Madara, Obito had learned numerous powerful jutsu, including all five basic chakra nature transformations.

He quickly formed a complex series of hand seals and thrust both arms forward.

Wind Release: Tornado Hurricane!

Fwoosh! Fwoosh!

A violent gust surged forth, tearing through the fog like a roaring beast. In moments, the thick mist was swept away, and the figure of the Fourth Mizukage, Yagura, was exposed.

Yagura stood tall, his green hair and violet eyes unmistakable. A large scar resembling stitches ran under his left eye. He leaned on a staff-like weapon with a curved hook and green floral markings, which he planted into the ground to steady himself amidst the roaring winds. His expression darkened—his prideful Hidden Mist Technique had been neutralized, leaving him visibly unsettled.

Wind Release: Typhoon Vortex!

Yagura swiftly formed a one-handed seal, raised his weapon, and unleashed his own powerful wind technique.

Boom! Boom!

The two opposing air currents collided violently, creating a monstrous convective storm that engulfed the battlefield.

"Ugh…"

"Ah!"

Zetsu (in his Tobi form) and Maoyue Sunset were both blown back by the shockwave.

Sunset gritted her teeth, drove her ninja blade into the ground for support, and shielded her face from the debris with one hand. As she gazed toward the two fighting figures in the storm's center, a chill ran down her spine.

Both of them are monsters...

As the wind finally subsided—

Lightning Release: Chidori!

Zzzzz!

Obito vanished in an instant, a crackling spear of lightning flaring in his right hand as he charged straight toward Yagura.

Water Release: Water Mirror Technique!

A shimmering mirror of water formed in front of Yagura, reflecting the image of Obito's Chidori-charged rush. Suddenly—whoosh!—a doppelgänger burst forth from the mirror, Chidori in hand, clashing directly with the real Obito's attack.

Crack!

Both Chidoris collided and annihilated each other—equal in power.

Obito smirked. Just as I expected—Yagura would use this move. That's why I deliberately mirrored it...

His true goal had been to observe and copy the technique using his Sharingan.

A chance to fight a Kage-level opponent like this... how could I let it go to waste?

Yagura, proud and confident, sneered. "Before my Water Mirror Technique, even S-rank ninjutsu can be perfectly duplicated."

"Heh... is that so?" Obito narrowed his left Mangekyō Sharingan directly at the mirror.

Kamui!

Crack! The water mirror shattered into nothing.

"What!? It can't be copied?" Yagura gasped. "His eye technique... surpasses my mirror!"

"This time, I'm aiming for your head," Obito said coldly as his Sharingan zeroed in on Yagura's skull.

"Not good!" Yagura shouted.

Water Release: Light Wave Reflection!

Yagura's entire body was suddenly cloaked in a unique water chakra. Without hand seals, he used the chakra layer to refract light—his image rippled like a reflection on a disturbed lake.

Obito's vision flickered.

"Hmph! Kamui!!" he declared again.

AHHH!! A scream rang out as Yagura's distorted figure was flung through the air, blood trailing behind him. He clutched his hook-staff with one hand, while the other covered his left ear—now missing and bleeding heavily.

Obito's Kamui had missed its mark—but it had still torn away part of Yagura's head.

Yagura now stood beyond the effective range of Obito's long-range eye technique.

"As expected of the Fourth Mizukage... to survive that is no small feat," Obito said, slightly amused.

"Damn you, Uchiha! I'm going to kill you!!" Yagura roared, his childlike face twisted in rage, bloodlust surging.

Water Release: Severing Wave!

He spewed a high-pressure jet of water from his mouth—razor-sharp and powerful enough to tear through stone—straight at Obito.

Of course, it passed harmlessly through Obito's intangible form.

He's using his phasing again! Yagura's hands formed another seal. "Let's see you handle this—Diversion!"

Whoosh!

The water beam split—one stream continued toward Obito, while the other shot toward Maoyue Sunset in the distance.

Obito's expression shifted. "Damn, I can't block that while in intangible mode!"

CRASH!

But before it struck Sunset, she had already reacted. Gripping the Thunder Twin Blades: Kiba, she drew them in a flash. Lightning coursed down their edges as she crossed them defensively.

Though she was still knocked back, her vitals were protected—avoiding a fatal blow.

Yagura's gaze locked onto the blades in her hands. His eyes flared with fury as he tossed aside his staff and began forming hand seals.

"The Thunder Blades... a sacred treasure of our Kirigakure Village, now held by an outsider from the Oniden clan? Unforgivable. You will all be buried in the Blood Mist!"

Water Release: Great Exploding Water Colliding Wave!

A colossal torrent burst from his mouth, forming a massive water dome that submerged everything within dozens of meters—including everyone caught in it.

Deep beneath the swirling water, Obito muttered to himself: Such force... it can rival Amaterasu. He truly lives up to the title of Mizukage. Zetsu, protect Sunset.

Across the water dome, Maoyue Sunset was overwhelmed—she couldn't breathe, couldn't move.

Suddenly—crack!

Zetsu's body slithered around her, shielding her completely.

"Struggle and you'll drown. Stay still. I'm saving you... for Obito's sake," Zetsu muttered. Sunset, realizing resistance was futile, stopped fighting.

Blub-blub-blub... Zetsu sank to the bottom and tunneled underground.

Ten seconds later, nearly a kilometer from the battle, he resurfaced and released her.

"Cough! Cough!!" Sunset gasped, hacking up water. As she regained her breath, she looked back at the giant water sphere in the distance. Obito... is still in there...

"Don't worry," Zetsu said. "He won't die so easily."

Back at the battle's heart—

Yagura frowned. Her chakra vanished... must've escaped somehow. No matter. She won't get far.

Meanwhile, Obito thought: Looks like Zetsu got her out. The water pressure's heavy... Better use Susanoo to hold it back, then teleport out with Kamui.

Crack!

Susanoo's skeletal form emerged, resisting the crushing weight. Obito then activated Kamui's spatial vortex to phase himself away.

"You won't escape!" Yagura snarled.

Water Release: Whirlpool Devastation!

The entire underwater dome began spinning rapidly, forming a titanic whirlpool. At its center—Obito and his Susanoo.

Each rotation became a blade of water—hundreds of thousands of them swirling with destructive force.

Susanoo, still only in its skeletal stage, crumbled instantly under the onslaught.

I didn't expect such a monstrous jutsu... Obito's space-warping was interrupted. He switched to phasing mode instead.

"Hahaha! Looks like your space-jutsu failed, Obito," Yagura mocked. "Even though I'm isolated here in the Land of Water, I've long admired your infamy. You're spoken of alongside Hanzo the Salamander—and you've made Konoha's Danzo suffer countless times."

"That's why I ordered Kirigakure's ANBU to compile every scrap of intel on you. When I heard you'd entered my country, I grew anxious. And now that information is paying off."

"Your so-called invincible phasing? It can only last five minutes. And when you use a jutsu, you're forced to drop it. So I've prepared a little gift just for you..."

A devilish grin twisted Yagura's youthful face.

"The Land of Water is rich in underground springs. The mountains surrounding Kirigakure sit atop massive water veins. In the past, whenever a tailed beast rampaged, our Mizukage would harness these veins to unleash a colossal natural Water Release technique to suppress it until the sealing team could act."

"But today... for the first time, that technique won't be used on a tailed beast... but on you, Uchiha Obito. You should be honored!"

CLAP!!

Yagura slammed his hands together.

Secret Water Release: Divine Feather Cascade!

RUMBLE!

The earth cracked and roared as monstrous geysers—hundreds of meters wide—erupted into the sky. These weren't ordinary jutsu—they were natural water columns, drawn straight from the veins of the land.

Yagura laughed maniacally. "These geysers will surge continuously for six minutes. The pressure alone can crush anything weaker than a tailed beast. And once your phasing wears off, you'll be pulverized. If you try teleporting—well, you'll only die faster."

"Tell me, Obito... do you feel the terror of the Blood Mist now?"

Obito stared calmly through the chaos.

"Yagura... you've given me quite the welcome gift. Let me return the favor—"

"Wh-What!?"
