The Senegalese army consists of 6 army corps: the Thionganes, the Ndimbelanes, the Loucars, the Paddaans, the Tops, and the Ngallans.
Militarily, Senegal's 14 regions are divided into 7 zones or divisions spread across 4 fronts: the Eastern Front, the Northern Front, the Southern Front, and the Central Front.
Each front is overseen by a Chief of Staff, and by convention, a division general manages the military zones. The fronts are grouped into 2 corps, supervised by a corps general, with the entire structure under the authority of the General Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces. From the rank of brigade general-in-chief, ranks are assigned to oversee all troops in a given zone, rather than a single specific army corps.
For example, the Dakar region is considered a division on its own, comprising 3 brigades: the Dakar Brigade, the Pikine-Guédiawaye Brigade, and the Keur Massar-Rufisque Brigade. However, Dakar typically has 4 brigades: the Thiongane Brigade of Dakar, the Loucar Brigade of Dakar, the Ndimbelane Brigade of Dakar, and the Ngallan Brigade of Dakar.
Each brigade is commanded by a brigade general, and all brigade variations are supervised by a brigade general-in-chief.Army corps ranks end at brigade general, and from general officers onward, army supervision becomes global, encompassing all army corps based on the permitted zone of influence.
Central Front
The Central Front is the front with the most soldiers and the greatest focus from the General Staff. It comprises Zone 1 (Dakar region) and Zone 7 (Thiès and Diourbel regions).
Eastern Front
Includes Zone 3 (Kaolack, Fatick, Kaffrine) and Zone 4 (Tambacounda, Kédougou).
Northern Front
Consists only of Zone 2 (Saint-Louis, Louga, Matam). Likely the zone with the smallest troop numbers.
Southern Front
Includes Zone 5 (Ziguinchor) and Zone 6 (Kolda, Sédhiou). This is the second zone with the largest military personnel.
