Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Professor Brain's First Class (Part 3)

šŸ¤— Please if you find any incorrect names let me know in comments so I can fix themĀ

On Thursday morning, the second class was Defense Against the Dark Arts, with fifth, sixth, and seventh years combined. The teaching location was still the Great Hall.

For these senior students, who had already received some defense training and were about to graduate, Amostas had something special to tell them.

"—The premise of defense is that it can only be effective when the strengths are equal or similar. For example, even if I now tell you everything I know about dueling and defense, it's unlikely you'd be able to last more than three seconds in front of Headmaster Dumbledore!"

The senior students below burst into laughter. Penelope Clearwater, Percy Weasley's girlfriend and a Ravenclaw, raised her hand and asked curiously,

"Then what about you, Professor Brain? Can you defeat Headmaster Dumbledore?"

"Don't ask such embarrassing questions, Miss Clearwater!" Amostas pursed his lips, smiling as he turned to the other side.

"Among wizards who follow traditional magical education, there's a way to classify strength. I think you can learn from and refer to it."

The Great Hall was silent. Over two hundred pairs of eyes, sparkling with curiosity, were fixed on Professor Brain, who spoke eloquently.

"—As you all know, some traditional wizarding lineages still use a one-on-one or one-on-few model for training successors. According to ancient tradition, they refer to young wizards who are still receiving basic magical education as 'Wizard Apprentices.' In comparison, the peak of a Wizard Apprentice should be a young wizard who obtains four or more certificates with excellent grades in the O.W.L.s exams of modern magical education."

The young wizards immediately brightened up. Most of the students here could reach this standard. However, Professor Brain's next sentence poured a bucket of cold water over them.

"Provided they obtain these certificates with excellent grades—"

Percy's face glowed red, and he held his head high. He was currently the only person in Hogwarts who had obtained O.W.L.s certificates with twelve Outstanding grades. Undoubtedly, his overall level had already transcended the Wizard Apprentice class.

"Then what's next, Professor? What's above Wizard Apprentice?"

Amostas's novel classifications piqued everyone's interest. For the first time, even Marcus, a student who struggled academically, eagerly wanted to understand a subject in class.

"Next, of course, are 'Official Wizards,' Flint,"

Amostas didn't keep them in suspense and spoke directly,

"But this level of wizardry has a wide vertical span. Compared to modern magical education, it ranges from a qualified O.W.L.s student to... well,"

Amostas pondered for a moment, then said with some uncertainty, "The upper limit is probably around the level of an elite Auror. I apologize, the description might not be entirely accurate, because this isn't a systematic classification in itself."

No one cared about Professor Brain's apology; they just wanted to know more, especially the young wizards whose relatives worked at the Ministry of Magic and knew how formidable elite Aurors truly were. They wished they could rush onto the stage and pry open Professor Brain's mouth.

"Hurry up and tell us, Professor!"

Percy, who had already been confirmed as an Official Wizard, forgot to maintain his Prefect demeanor and stared eagerly at Amostas.

"The peak of an Official Wizard is probably the highest achievement most magic practitioners can reach in their lifetime. Beyond that, it's generally an area that ordinary people cannot access. In ancient kingdoms, only those with extraordinary talent and good fortune could forge their own unique magical path, and they would be personally appointed by the royalty as 'Court Wizards'."

Court Wizards!

The young wizards excitedly whispered among themselves, their discussions reaching a fever pitch. Many emphatically swore that, according to Professor Brain's description, one of their elders was a 'Court Wizard'!

"—Professor Snape's Potions mastery, Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration skills, Professor Flitwick's flexible application of modern standard spells, and Professor Sprout's extensive Herbology knowledge—in ancient times, these levels would all be revered as Court Wizards by other wizards!"

Professor Brain, with a smile on his face, pushed the enthusiastic discussion in the Great Hall to an even higher peak with just one sentence, and it continued for nearly ten minutes without subsiding!

But gradually, the discussion veered in a direction Amostas didn't want to see. Every student in every house believed their own Head of House was a well-deserved Court Wizard, but they were quite dismissive of the other three houses.

Among them, Severus Snape received the most criticism.

Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff students whispered accusations that Snape, who only brewed potions in the dungeon, was utterly unworthy of the glorious title of 'Court Wizard'!

This utterly infuriated the Slytherin students. The tall and burly Flint stood like a wall in front of all the Slytherins, fully displaying his excellent Quidditch playing style. He strode onto his desk, glaring fiercely at those who questioned Slytherin, as if ready to pounce and tear them apart at any moment!

"Flint, get down from that desk before I lose my temper."

Amostas's calm tone instantly made Marcus, who had just been acting so aggressively, quiet down. He obediently got off the desk and sincerely apologized to Amostas.

"...Telling you all this is just to give you a basic concept. When you encounter danger in the future, don't blindly and foolishly charge at powerful wizards who far exceed your own strength. It's not for you to start brawling."

Now, the young wizards suddenly realized that at Hogwarts, besides Professor McGonagall and Professor Snape, there was another wizard who possessed the ability to command respect without needing to get angry!

After quieting everyone with his profound gaze, Amostas nodded in satisfaction. "Now then, I think we should continue our previous topic and discuss in detail how to deal with a werewolf that goes berserk under a full moon. It's actually very simple; you just need to..."

"Professor Brain—"

Just then, Miss Clearwater, who had earlier asked if Amostas could defeat Dumbledore, raised her hand again.

"Any more questions, Miss Clearwater?"

Amostas strolled to the group of Ravenclaw students, looking at her gently. In his heart, he had already guessed what this Ravenclaw, with her vibrant curiosity, wanted to ask.

"You haven't finished, Professor Brain."

In the recent chaos, Penelope, who had been stepped on several times, was rubbing her ankle under her desk while pouting. Her expression was indeed very cute. At least, Percy in the Gryffindor section seemed completely smitten.

"Wizard Apprentice, Official Wizard, Court Wizard... What's next, Professor? Is there anything beyond that?"

"Oh!"

Amostas pretended to just remember this. He looked at the audience with an inexplicable smile, his gaze sweeping back and forth, seemingly deliberately teasing the young wizards.

"I apologize, I forgot... There is indeed one more."

Then hurry up and tell us!

Amostas read this unspoken message from many people's eyes.

The dismissal bell had already rung, and the vibrations from hundreds of people simultaneously stepping on the floor above could already be heard from the Great Hall's ceiling. Some of the faster young wizards were already standing by the railing on the second floor, looking down.

Hurry up and tell us, Professor, class is already dismissed!

The young wizards in the Defense Against the Dark Arts class were no longer content to express their urgency with just their eyes. They stood up one after another, urging him in low voices.

At this moment, the crowd gathered on the second floor automatically parted, and Albus Dumbledore, who was always very enthusiastic about meals, appeared smiling on the marble staircase.

"Saint—"

Amostas looked up and nodded at Dumbledore, returning his smile.
