Nikolai POV:
I could feel the shift in Victor, Keegan, and Ryker. "Please Trevor, you know my shift isn't over until four. It's thirty more minutes and I have good tipping tables. If you just let me finish-" "You were told not to call me by my name you stupid slut." He spat at her. I was barely keeping it together. If he continues to disrespect her I'm going to lose it.
"I'm sorry sir. I didn't mean to." She whispers back. What the actual f**k? "I'll go tell the girls I'm leaving." She sighs defeated. "Good girl. Now, go so I can enjoy my pie." That's it. I'm about to cause a scene. Paige goes to the back and I hear her tell the lady she has to go. 'Ryker who the hell is this guy?' I question him. 'Not sure Alpha never seen him before.' he replied.
'He is about to be a dead man.' Kaelen growled. We heard our mate let out a sob and focused on the kitchen. The girl I learned was Rose had went back there a minute ago. "Rose he found my bag this morning. He knows I'm trying to leave. He is going to hurt me again, I know it." She cried. "What do you mean again Paige? Did he do something this morning?" Rose questions her.
All I hear is an audible gasp come from both women at first. "That's it Paige. You aren't going anywhere with him. I'll kill him if he tries to take you." Rose yells angrily. What did she just see? I look to the end of the counter at the idiot Trevor. He is smugly eating his pie and scrolling through his phone. Suddenly Rose bursts through the swinging doors and stomps up to him. By this time we were the only ones left in the diner.
"You stupid prick! I'm going to be at you the way you beat her!" She said shouting at Trevor and pointing to Paige. Hearing that I snap. He hurt my mate. I ran over and snatched him up off the stool by the throat. Kaelen was on the surface with me and I could hear the audible gasp of Paige and Rose. "You like to pick on women? You think you have a right to lay a hand on my mate! No, you have no rights anymore now you're MINE!" We growled out and I could see him starting to pass out.
I fling him to the floor and jumped over the bar. 'Get him.' We instructed Ryker through the link. Paige was backed in the corner behind Rose and another woman. But this wasn't just any woman. She is a she-wolf but not a rogue. Interesting. Keegan hopped the counter too. "Please, don't be afraid. Paige let me explain." I say in a soothing tone holding out my hand. "It's alright Paige. Alpha Nikolai won't hurt you. It's hard to explain now but if you're his mate that means he will protect you." The she-wolf said rubbing circles on her back.
"What do you mean Alpha, and mate? Like dogs?" Rose asks folding her arms across her chest. "We are not dogs. We are wolves." Keegan said approaching Rose. She scoffed and he grabbed her hand pulling her to him. "Do you feel that? That's the mate sparks. That's what happens when a werewolf touches their mate." He said lifting her chin and she gasps.
"They feel... Amazing." She said. I could see the mate Bond working its magic as she slowly gave in. They walked to a booth in the corner to talk more. Paige took my hand and another gasp left her lips. "This isn't real. This can't be real. Werewolves do not exist." Paige whispers looking at our hands. "It doesn't matter. Trevor is going to kill me for what happened here today. Or worse lock me in that closet again." She mimbles.
"He won't hurt you ever again. Come with me. I'll explain everything." I say soothingly but also pleadingly. She was deep in thought for a while. "Anywhere is better than there. I'll go." She said with a hint of defiance in her voice. "Really?" Kaelen and I asked excitedly. "You said we are mates? Is it the same as in books?" She asks blushing a bit. It's so beautiful. "Basically, depending on what books you're reading." I wink at her and the blush deepens.
Rose and Keegan stroll over to us. "Paige we have to go with them. They are our mates and they will take care of us." Rose said taking Paige's face in her hands. "I decided it would be better to go with them than stay here with Trevor." She said and Rose let out a squeal. I started to absentmindedly rub circles on her hand with my thumb and she let out a little humm of appreciation. "That feels nice. Almost like it's soothing my whole body." She whispers.
"That's what it does. It literally heals you just by touching your mate." I say and Rose moves so I can stand closer to Paige. She looks up at me and I see the mate Bond working its magic. The magic of the mate bond is powerful. That's why most can't resist the mate pull. The touch of your mate acts like a magnetic force and pulls you closer together until you mate and mark then you become one soul.
