Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: Foundations of Growth

Kael stood in his room at Erion's home, the familiar glow of his status screen casting soft light against the walls. He had 30 unspent stat points. After a moment's thought, he allocated 10 points into Strength, raising it from 40 to 50. As soon as he confirmed the changes, the effect was immediate—raw power surged through his limbs, and the world felt just a bit lighter. It was a triple threshold—Strength hitting a multiple of 5, 10, and 50—and the reward was a noticeable, satisfying boost in power.

Next, he focused on Endurance, adding 10 more points. It rose to 40, another multiple of 5 and 10. The boost wasn't as dramatic as Strength, but it was still tangible—his breathing deepened, posture straightened, and even his lingering fatigue seemed to vanish. Ten stat points remained, and Kael decided to keep them in reserve. He might need them in a tight spot later.

He left shortly after and returned to the hunter's guild. The receptionist recognized him and handed over a small pouch. "One silver coin for completion," she said with a polite nod. It wasn't much, but it was fair for a basic EE-rank quest.

Kael thanked her and returned to Erion's home. That evening, he offered to pay for his room and board while he stayed.

Erion waved it off. "You saved Mira and me from both shadow beasts and cultists. You've more than earned your place here, Kael."

Kael accepted the kindness with a grateful nod.

Later, he found Mira in the small courtyard out back. She was practicing her Minor Creation skill, her brow furrowed in concentration. At Kael's encouragement, she tried forming something more complex than simple stone.

She focused, and a dull, dark shape formed in her hands.

Kael activated Omni-Vision to observe. What he saw astonished him—her magic didn't just conjure objects. It broke down nearby atoms and recombined them, reshaping them into the desired substance. The structure wasn't perfect, and the material wasn't pure, but it was unmistakably metal—her first successful attempt.

"You're deconstructing and reconstructing matter," Kael said, eyes wide. "That's what Minor Creation is doing. You're just starting to shape the building blocks themselves."

Mira stared at the metal fragment in awe. "I… I can make metal now?"

"It's not pure," Kael admitted. "But now that you've reached the beginner stage, your understanding will only grow."

Excited, Mira threw her arms around him in a spontaneous hug. "Thank you!"

Kael froze, feeling his face go red. Mira quickly pulled back, cheeks flushed. "Sorry—I didn't mean—"

"No, it's fine," Kael said, laughing awkwardly. "I'm just glad it helped."

They stood there, both a little embarrassed but smiling. Progress, however small, always felt worth celebrating.
