Chapter 397 - Remnants of the Demon Lords, a God's Gift

"Is it still worth being surprised about at this point?" Su Mo retorted. "It's been hundreds of years since the Dystopian Demon Lord. The development of human history has more or less hit a bottleneck. It would be worse if there were no breakthroughs."

The Last Embryos of Humanity aka Last Embryo often arise alongside periods of historical transition.

At crucial junctures in human history, when humanity is highly likely to face a destructive end due to certain factors, the Last Embryos manifest as the embodiment of that apocalypse.

Only by overcoming these factors and defeating the corresponding Last Embryo can humanity welcome a brand-new future.

In other words, the development of human history and the birth of the Last Embryos are complementary.

Although the entirety of human history would end if the corresponding Last Embryo wasn't defeated before the time limit, if it was defeated, human history would also experience a leap forward in its development.

According to the predictions of Laplace's Demon and many other prophetic gods in the Almighty Domain, only two Last Embryos of Humanity would be born after the twenty-first century.

The first was the Dystopian Demon Lord, whose corresponding catalyst was severed hundreds of years ago in the Middle Ages when Canary and others reversed time to rewrite the center of Little Garden, triggering the Black Death, thus reducing the probability of its existence to zero.

As for the second, it was the one Su Mo had predicted, the last Last Embryo, whose true identity was still unknown.

"That may be true..." Hearing Su Mo's nonchalant tone, Canary gave a wry smile. "But the appearance of something like this isn't exactly a cause for celebration! Even I don't want to face such a terrible battle."

Recalling the struggle against the Dystopian Demon Lord, she still had lingering fears.

Although it was theoretically a Last Embryo born after the twenty-first century, the Dystopian Demon Lord's appearance and rule had lasted for a very long time, considered a long-term war even in Little Garden.

When the Dystopian Demon Lord began establishing farms to raise humans in the West Side of Little Garden, the Floor Master system had only just been established.

At that time, Leticia hadn't even been betrayed by her own kind, nor had she become a Demon Lord.

It was only after Leticia had slept for several hundred years that she was awakened by Canary, who had returned from her studies with the gods.

After that, it took several more hundred years of lobbying the god-groups to join the resistance.

Only when the Dystopian Demon Lord truly bared its fangs did the gods fully support Canary's idea, attempting to work together to subjugate this Last Embryo.

And only after paying a considerable price did they finally accomplish this goal several hundred years later.

From beginning to end, this war had spanned at least a millennium. Canary had spent most of her life in this war, enjoying only a few years of peace, only to have the next Last Embryo appear.

It was no wonder she felt a headache coming on.

"You say that, but from your expression, you don't look unhappy," Su Mo said, raising an eyebrow slightly, his gaze fixed on the corners of Canary's mouth, which were unconsciously curving up in excitement.

The mix of pressure and excitement was clearly the look of a hunter who had found their prey.

"Hehe~ I do like a challenge. The more difficult the Demon Lord, the more exciting it is to subjugate them!" Busted by Su Mo, Canary didn't try to hide it and chuckled.

Although she had achieved many great deeds, she actually had a personality that reveled in chaos.

Otherwise, she wouldn't have continued to lead the Arcadia Grand Alliance to subjugate other Demon Lords after defeating the Dystopian one.

Compared to upholding justice or whatever, she seemed to simply enjoy the pleasure of solving difficult problems.

"Besides, we have you this time, Lord Su Mo. You're not just going to stand by and do nothing about this Last Embryo, are you?" she said, looking at Su Mo with a feigned pitiful expression.

Seeing her knowingly ask, Su Mo shook his head. "Of course not. Although Arcadia should be able to seal this Demon Lord with your power, considering the possibility of external interference, I will handle it personally."

"External interference?" Hearing this, Canary was stunned. "Are you talking about the Demon Lord Alliance?"

She remembered Su Mo had said before that the Demon Lord Alliance was very wary of humanity's side having a candidate for the Original Texts and would not allow humans to conquer the Last Embryos on their own.

Therefore, once Arcadia showed the ability to subjugate a Last Embryo, the Demon Lord Alliance would secretly sabotage them, just like how the Queen of Halloween's Avalon Knights had been annihilated by the Demon Lord Alliance during the fight against the Dystopian Demon Lord.

"Mhm." Su Mo nodded calmly.

"But wasn't the Demon Lord Alliance completely eradicated by you?" Canary's expression was still one of astonishment. "In the last battle, the Queen got her revenge, and Archangel Michael also cleaned up the relevant personnel. Are there still remnants of the Demon Lord Alliance that haven't been dealt with?"

"If you're talking about those who were simply members of the Demon Lord Alliance, then yes, they have been cleaned up by me," Su Mo said, looking steadily at Canary. "But if you're talking about the related personnel, or those who deliberately condoned or even arranged for the Demon Lord Alliance's actions, then I have not yet made a move."

"...Why?" Although she already had a guess, Canary asked with difficulty.

"After all, I can't just wipe out almost all the god-groups in Little Garden in one go, can I?" Su Mo said in a calm tone, but his words sent a chill down the spines of those around him. "At least, not now."

His meaning was clear. Although only a few had participated in the Demon Lord Alliance, it had been widely permitted and condoned.

As long as the gods who held the same ideology still existed, they could potentially strike at Arcadia at a critical moment to prevent their success.

To eradicate this danger, all the god-systems would need to be eliminated, and that was obviously impossible.

"This ideology has spread so far..." Canary's expression was complex, her tone a little shaken. She had considered this possibility, but she hadn't expected the situation to be worse than she thought.

From Su Mo's words, it seemed that the vast majority of the god-groups were involved.

After feeling a little oppressed, she looked up at Su Mo and suddenly laughed lightly again. "It's a good thing we have you, Lord Su Mo. Otherwise, I really wouldn't know how to face this level of opposition!" she said with immense relief.

Compared to the time of the Dystopian Demon Lord, when they couldn't even identify their hidden enemies, and even if they could, they couldn't possibly defend against them, the current situation was much better.

At least there was a trustworthy person like Su Mo, and his faction was a leader even among the god-groups.

If not for this, even without a premonition, she could imagine the situation where they would be ambushed by the enemy while preparing to face the Last Embryo in complete ignorance.

Last time it was the Avalon Knights that were destroyed; this time it might have been their Arcadia.

"Between us, there's no need for such meaningless thanks," Su Mo said, shaking his head. "After I've collected the Divinities of the second and third types of perpetual motion machines, I have some things to investigate with Leticia. If you have nothing else to do later, you can accompany me to your headquarters."

Hearing Su Mo's request, Canary tilted her head, a surprised and delighted look in her eyes, though it was unclear what she was thinking. "Understood! Since Lord Su Mo has a request, I'll accompany you through fire and water. What in this world could be more important than your business with Leticia?!" she said, patting her chest and accepting the role of guide.

Although he found her point of excitement a bit strange, Su Mo didn't say anything and turned his head to look at the dragon egg that Maxwell's Demon had wanted to use as a hostage.

He held the egg in one hand and looked at the old fire dragon and his wife under their nervous gaze. "Although Michael has already paid the reward, since we've met by chance, let me give you two a meeting gift."

Hearing his casual tone, the old fire dragon was instantly moved.

Anyone would know that this was the great lord offering them an extra reward.

But after the excitement, the old fire dragon quickly calmed down and immediately bowed. "Lord Su Mo, just saving my daughter from the Demon Lord's hands is the most precious meeting gift! I will remember your generosity."

He was not a short-sighted type and would not use this opportunity to ask for extra rewards.

"Maxwell's Demon was useful to me. Getting rid of him was just a matter of convenience. It doesn't count as a meeting gift," Su Mo shook his head.

No matter what the old fire dragon's previous plans were, he had lent him the most important thing in his community, the Another Cosmology. A small reward was nothing.

"But..." The old fire dragon still wanted to refuse, but Canary interrupted him with a smile.

"I'd advise you not to refuse, lest you regret it in the future... A gift that Lord Su Mo calls a meeting gift is something you might not be able to find even if you searched all of Little Garden!"

Hearing this, the old fire dragon's breath hitched, clearly intrigued. This might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Should he really refuse it out of politeness?

Seeing his moved expression, Canary smiled and looked at Su Mo. "What gift does Lord Su Mo intend to bestow upon them? Something too precious might not be good. They might not have the power to protect it."

This sentence, rather than being a warning to Su Mo, was more like a way to lower the expectations of the old fire dragon and his wife.

Of course, aside from that, it was also the truth.

Just protecting the Another Cosmology: Virtual Star Tai Sui was already a strain on Salamandra's strength.

If they were to receive an even more precious treasure, they would inevitably become a fat sheep in the eyes of the Demon Lords, which might not be a good thing.

Su Mo had naturally considered this. "Mhm." He nodded, then looked down at the dragon egg in his hand. "Didn't you say before that you were just missing a bright future? Then how about I give you a future?"

Hearing this, the old fire dragon and his wife were stunned for a moment, then quickly reacted, their eyes filled with immense excitement.

The words of refusal simply wouldn't come out.

A future... what could be a more satisfying future for them than a powerful heir?
