Ruchi Kannan does business with Earthbound Spirits to save her best friend from a curse. 

Earthbound Spirits are the souls of people who have recently passed away — souls that wander feeling lost, unable to move on from the human realm but also wondering why they're stuck. 

In exchange for helping them find the answer with her special power, she collects one of their emotions — aiming for five-hundred in total. It'll take this much to destroy the curse that has made her best friend shut everyone out. 

She's halfway through — about to capture the next emotion — when she accidentally pitches to a Wrath Ghost. 

And it's not just any Wrath Ghost but the one who has a reputation for being the most ruthless in the Lower Spiritual Realm: Agnisura. 

Agnisura is infamous for catching the resentment hidden in a human's heart and amplifying it — pushing them to acts of bloody violence, revenge, and destruction. 

But Ruchi, knowing her heart is clean of such poisonous emotions, doesn't heed the Earthbound Spirits' advice to stay away from him. 

She also befriends Agnisura for help with her goal — 
not knowing how it'll turn her whole life upside down.
