Teniola had never eaten steak that cost more than her rent before.
She smiled at the elegantly dressed Okonkwo couple and nodded like she belonged, even though her feet hurt in the designer heels.
"So how did you two meet?" Mrs. Okonkwo asked with a twinkle in her eye.
Dami opened his mouth, but Teni beat him to it.
"In a café. I spilled hot coffee on his laptop," she said brightly. "He yelled. I yelled louder. And then we kissed."
Mrs. Okonkwo gasped in delight. "So romantic!"
Dami gave her a side-glare that could melt diamonds.
She grinned and sipped her wine. "And now we fight less. Except on weekdays. And weekends."
Everyone laughed.
Dami fake-laughed. "Isn't she hilarious?"
After the dinner, in the car, Dami turned to her.
"Did you seriously say we met over spilled coffee?"
"You're lucky I didn't say we met at a pepper soup joint," she said. "Now where's my N500k?"
