Chapter 4 - HSFR 3: About the Necklace

They talked about plans for the entire rest of the afternoon. Esmé had asked her if she still has her pearl necklace and Abigail said that she does.

She had been keeping it in her drawer back home, waiting for Esmé to tell her that she wants it back. It was given to her for safekeeping after all.

In Esmé past life, the only reason why she had the pearl necklace back is because Abigail returned it back to her after the wedding and during the reception.

Esmé had invited her for the wedding and Abigail attended as her maid in honor. She had thought then that Abigail changed her mind and that she supports her marriage.

That was until they had a major fight and Esmé got the pearl necklace back.

Now that this is sort of a fresh start, Esmé would have the necklace back to her early. She knows what it does now. Well, she did find out what it does only moments before she had died.

It gives her access to a space that only she can open while she had it on her.

Her memory about it was blurry, but she knew what she saw. She has no idea how big it was though. She would have to explore more about it tomorrow the moment she has it. But she knew that she only needs to have it back and use it for herself.

That is probably the reason why Dominic wants her pearl necklace for himself. Now that she knows what it really does, she will use it instead.

Just like Abigail likes to called him as: that bastard.

Aptly call out too. Esmé now agrees.

Since the visiting hours were only up until 5pm, Abigail had to bid goodbye.

Abigail would be meeting Esmé for her discharge tomorrow if things go well. They had already agreed to hide Esmé for two more days to give her a little bit more of freedom to deal with some things that she had to. It will be essential for what she had in mind.

Esmé had asked to borrow Abigail's car as she drove around some locations, which she agreed. The gas will be entirely Esmé's responsibility while she drove it though, which Esmé is okay with.

While Esmé and Dominic aren't married yet, there are some part of the Thornblood's finances that he handles. All Esmé knew was that there is a reason why her parents trust Dominic.

Mostly it was because they were friends with her fiancé's parents.

Dominic is also the first son and the heir of his own parents to handle the companies that they had. Though Esmé is the lone heiress of her family, they are both supposed to be in equal footing.

Both had money each side is not afraid to spend, except Esmé is more careful with hers while Dominic throws money at a problem until it disappears.

It just made sense that their marriage even began to bore fruit in the first place. Then, it became solidified the longer the joking and the teasing continued and then ended up with their parents' agreement.

That arrangement made Esmé's life hell. But she couldn't bring herself to blame her late parents. She wanted to be married with him too. She thought she loved him.

Maybe at one point she did.

Not anymore.

There was a nurse that visited Esmé just before dinner. She took her vitals, and told Esmé that everything seems to be in order.

She was also told that there would be another vitals' check tomorrow morning and if everything stayed normal, Esmé will be discharged.

Esmé was given a meal for her dinner at her request. The food was bland, just like normal hospital food, but at least it was filling and healthy. It was mostly soup so she doesn't end up with an upset stomach from the few days of her not consuming anything other than the nutrients she got from the IV.

Dinner passed by in a blink of an eye.

Not only that, but even the night passed by the same too.

Esmé was woken up by a knock on the door in the morning. The door opens and it was the same nurse as yesterday.

She let her take her vitals.

"Everything is in order." The nurse says, a smile on her face. "I'll pass this to doc and you can be discharged by the afternoon."

Esmé gave her a smile back. "I see. Thank you."

"Do you have anyone that will fetch you? Do you want us to contact someone for you?" The nurse offered, closing the clipboard she had been holding.

Esmé shook her head. "Oh, no need. I have someone coming for me. Thank you for the offer."

The nurse nods her head. "All right. If you need anything at all, just press the nurse button. Take care on your way out later."

And with that, the nurse left the room.

Esmé immediately took her charging phone at the bedside table. There is a frown on her face when she saw notifications for more of Dominic's new messages.

She ignores them and calls Abigail.

There is barely any wait before the call was accepted. "Hello?"

"Ivy." Esmé greets. "I'll be discharged this afternoon. Can you really come to fetch me?"

A loud huff of feigned annoyance came from the other end. "Hey! I already told you I will! Wait for me."

Esmé hums in response. She asked because she had to make sure. Even if Abigail couldn't, Esmé would still find another way, after all. "Okay, I will see you then. Drive safe."

"You know I will. Thanks for the update."

The call ended from the other side. Esmé lays back down on her bed. It is still a few more hours before Abigail comes around. She still has plenty of time before then.

She pressed the nurse button. She might as well request for breakfast while she wait. Maybe after Abigail comes later, they can eat a late lunch outside the hospital together.
