Chapter 34 - Ch34 Alive?

Mike and his friends were pedaling quickly, hitting their fastest speed as they tried their best to keep up with the police cars. They rode down a long dirt path through a clearing before they began to go downhill.

The boys finally stopped pedaling as they rested and let themselves coast down the road to the bottom of the quarry. They arrived at the bottom a couple minutes after Hopper and got off of their bikes quickly. They dropped their bikes behind a firetruck before they walked to cover behind the truck.

They all peered around the truck and looked towards the water where all the other responders were. They sat 2 police officers lift a body out of the water and lay it on a raft. The boys were in shock, Mike said, "It's not Will. It can't be."

They watched closely as the float was dragged back to dry land and then began to carry the float. Lucas said, "It's Will. It's really Will." Mike couldn't handle looking any longer, so he walked to the other side of the truck, Eleven followed close behind him.

Eleven said, "Mike..."

Mike snapped and said, "Mike? Mike, what?" Eleven gasped at this sudden outburst as her eyes widened.

Mike said, "You were supposed to help us find him alive. You said he was alive! Why did you lie to us? What's wrong with you? What is wrong with you?"

Eleven teared up and said softly, "Mike..."

Mike said gruffly, "What?" Then he looked at her for a second before he began to walk away.

Lucas saw him leaving and said, "Mike, come on. Don't do this, man. Mike..."

Dustn said, "Mike, where are you going? Mike!" Mike ignored them and began to walk up the big hill, dragging his bike next to him.

Lucas shouted, "Mike!" Alas, Mike gave no response and continued to walk forward, increasing his pace.

Meanwhile, Joyce was running frantically down the dirt road. She was surrounded by trees and every now and then she would look back to see if the monster was chasing after her. After running for a while longer, a pair of headlights appeared in the distance.

The continued towards her and stopped as soon as it noticed her. Joyce, who was still in a panic, screamed in fright. Jonathan got out of the car and said, "Mom?!"

He walked over to her asking, "Mom, what happened?"

Joyce was too distraught to answer him and could only whimper while mumbling incoherently. Jonathan embraced his mom and said, "It's okay>"

At the same time, Mike had just arrived back at his house. He ditched his bike in the front yard and burst through the front door and stood silently as he fought the tears that were threatening to fall from her eyes.

Karen was sitting in the living room with Barb's parents and saw Mike burst through the door, so she walked briskly over to Mike. Karen said, "Michael? What's wrong?"

As soon as she was in front of him, Mike wrapped his arms around her. Karen didn't hesitate to embrace Mike and rub his back as he cried into her shoulder."

While all of this emotional stuff was going on, John was at April's house. John was sitting with Lisa on the couch. April was in Lisa's room asleep, as she was exhausted from all the walking and all the mental strain that school had put on her.

John rested his hand on Lisa's smooth stomach as they watched a movie together. Lisa leaned into John as she got even more comfortable under the blanket. Lisa felt John rubbing her stomach gently and looked up at him with a smile.

John looked down and their eyes met, Lisa kissed John softly before she snuggled even closer. Then she went back to watching the movie. John caressed her stomach throughout the whole movie. When the movie ended, John carried a drowsy Lisa to her room and lay her down next to April.

John climbed into bed behind Lisa and held her close to him. John whispered to Lisa, "Blondie?"

Lisa whispered back, "Yeah?"

John asked quietly, "What do you think about moving into my house?"

Lisa whispered faintly, "That sounds nice, John."

John said quietly, "I'm glad you think so." John kissed her cheek before he backed off some and looked at her sleeping face. Then he lay back and looked through the system. Scrolling for a while after searching Jewelry, John found three exquisite necklaces that perfectly match Lisa, April and Nancy.

John spawned all of them and sent them to his pocket. The necklace for Lisa was made of gold and many small emeralds that spelled, "Blondie". April's necklace was made of gold and small bright red rubies that spelled, "Precious". Nancy's necklace was made of gold and small diamonds that spelled, "Grace".

With that done, John leaned closer to Lisa and put his hand under her shirt to touch her stomach. John could feel a small aura coming from her stomach, feeling this John closed his eyes and went to sleep.

Meanwhile, Jonathan and Joyce were now in front of their house with a couple police cruisers all around them. A lone officer was in front of them, telling them the hard news. The officer said, "We got a tip from a local about seeing something in the lake. Unfortunately, it was a body." Joyce and Jonathan immediately began to tear up.

The officer continued, "I'm sorry to give you this bad news. But the body is of a young boy." Joyce felt dizzy and fell into Jonathan's arms.

The officer said, "Well, I have taken enough of your time. Try to have a good night." Jonathan nodded his head slowly as he held his mother. Tears were flowing down his face nonstop, and he had to lean on the car for support.

At the same time, Hopper and Powell were inside the house looking around with flashlights. They were looking around because Joyce had told them about the thing that came out of the wall. They walked towards the wall Joyce had told them about and Powell asked, "This the wall she was talking about, Chief?"

Hopper stayed quiet and looked at the wall as he thought about the message, they received from Callahan at the library. Callahan said, "Chief, a trooper found something in, uh... the water that's at the quarry."

A couple minutes later, Jonathan calmed down and began to help his mother into the house. The police officer that talked with them watched them go into the house with a look of pity. Jonathan closed the front door behind him and was shocked by all the lights, but he was so mentally tired that he decided to just ignore them.

He saw Hopper standing in his kitchen and set his mother down on a chair in the kitchen before he asked Hopper about what happened. Jonathan asked, "How did... Will fall into the quarry?"

Hopper said, "Our working theory right now is that Will... crashed his bike, he... was disoriented and made his way over to the quarry unknowingly and, uh... accidentally fell in. The earth must have given way. Joyce?" Joyce didn't respond as she was in shock.

Hopper said, "Joyce? Do you understand what I'm saying?"

Joyce said, "No."

Her voice began to tremble as she said, "Whoever you found... is not my boy. It's not Will."

Hopper said, "Joyce."

Joyce stammered, "No, you don't understand. I talked to him... a half hour ago." Joyce walked over to the small compartment and crawled inside to grab the strand of lights.

Joyce said, "He was... He was here."

Joyce showed Hopper the strand of lights and said, "He was... He was talking with these."

Hopper questioned, "Talking?"

Joyce said, "Uh-huh. One blink for yes, two for no.... And... And, uh... And then I made this so he could talk to me. Cause he was hiding... from that... that thing."

Hopper asked, "The thing that came out of the wall? The thing that chased you?"

Joyce said, "Yeah."

Jonathan said, "Mom, come on, please. You've gotta stop this."

Joyce said, "No, maybe he's... It's after him. He's in danger. We have to find him! We--"

Hopper asked, "What exactly was this thing? It was some kind of animal, you said?"

Joyce answered, "No, uh... It was almost... human, but it wasn't. It... It had these long arms and... it didn't have a face." Jonathan couldn't handle this, so he walked out of the living room and into the kitchen and stared out the window.

Hopper repeated, "It didn't have a face?" Joyce began to look all around her in a panic, but Hopper grabbed her by the arms gently and sat her down on the couch.

Hopper said softly, "Joyce."

Joyce muttered, "It didn't have a face..."

Hopper said, "Joyce, listen to me. Listen to me... After Sarah... I saw her, too. And I heard her. I didn't know what was real. And then I figured out that it was in my head. And I had to pack it all away. Otherwise, I was going to fall down a hole... that I couldn't get out of."

Joyce said, "No, you're... you're talking about grief. This is different."

Hopper said, "I'm just saying that you--"

Joyce cut him off and said, "No, I know what you're saying, Hop. I swear to you, I know what I saw. And I'm not crazy"

Hopper said, "I'm not saying that you're crazy."

Joyce said, "No... You are. And I understand, but... God, I... I need you to believe me. Please. Please."

Hopper said, "Listen...I think you should go down to the morgue tomorrow and see him for yourself. It'll give you the answers that you need. But tonight..."

Joyce said, "Oh, God."

Hopper said, "I want you to get some sleep, if you can." Hopper rubbed her hand before he stood up and walked away. Jonathan watched Hopper walk out of the house, so he walked over to his mother and saw her staring at the wall.

Jonathan said, "Mom... Mom." Joyce finally responded and looked at him.

Jonathan said, "Come on, you should get some rest."

Joyce nodded her head slowly, so Jonathan supported her Ans they started to walk to her room. Jonathan helped his mother down the hall to her room and lay her down in her bed before he covered her with a blanket. Jonathan walked out of the room after he shut off the light. As soon as the bedroom door closed, he fell to his knees and started to sob quietly. As he knelt in the hall, he remembered all the fond memories he had made with his brother.

Jonathan kept thinking, 'This can't be real.' But every time he opened his eyes after wishing to go back, he found himself still in the hall. Little by little his hope of having his brother back alive began to weaken and his face grew emotionless and dull. Jonathan crawled up from the floor and walked to his room.

Jonathan closed the door behind him and turned off the lights. Then he sat down on the bed in silence, the darkness the only thing accompanying him. Eventually his body couldn't withstand the stress and fell back on the bed as his heart ached in grief. Jonathan shut his eyes and passed out, unable to stay conscious any longer.

After Mike had calmed down, he backed away from Karen and dashed to the basement door before he shut it. Karen was about to go towards it, but she remembered that Babr's parents were still in their living room. So, she walked back to sit down.

Barb's parents left about thirty minutes later after Nancy had told them about how she hadn't seen Barb all day and that she was worried about her. Barb's parents grew concerned as well and decided that in the morning they would call the police. Nancy and Karen led Barb's parents out of the house and said goodbye to them.

They both watched as Barb's parents drove off into the distance. While They were distracted, Mike snuck Eleven into the basement quietly. Although Mike was upset that Eleven had lied to him, he still couldn't abandon her as she was still his "friend".

Karen was in the living room, and they heard about Will's body being found over the radio. Karen started to tear up as she listened further. Tedd asked, "Should I go down and talk with Michael?"

Karen said, "Give him time. He'll come to us when he is ready."

Mike and Eleven were down in the basement and Eleven were playing with Mike's radio. Mike grew frustrated at the constant noise as he was looking at the drawings that Will had made for him. Mike asked, "Can you please stop that?"

Eleven turned off the radio, but she turned it back on a second later and the crackling continued. Mike asked, "Are you deaf?" El ignored him.

Mike said, "I thought we were friends, you know? But friends tell each other the truth. And they definitely don't lie to each other. You made us think that Will was okay, that he was still out there, but her wasn't. He wasn't! Maybe you thought you were helping, but you weren't. You hurt me. Do you understand? What you did sucks. Lucas was right about you. All along."

Eleven got a little upset and started to focus harder on the radio. Suddenly, Will's voice was heard on the other end of the radio. Will sang, "So come on and let me know. Should I stay or should I go? Should I stay or should I go now? Should I stay or should I go now? If I go there will be trouble. If I stay it will be double."

Mike grabbed the radio that El had outstretched for him and pressed the button. Mike said, "Will, is that you? It's Mike! Do you copy? Over." Eleven's nose started to bleed.

Mike asked, "Will, are you there? Will!" All that Mike could hear on the other end was static, however. Mike stopped trying to talk and looked at El, her nose had a long stream of blood flowing out.

Mike asked, "Was that... Was it..."

Eleven smiled and said, "Will."

In the morning John woke up as he felt several kisses to his cheek. John opened his eyes to only see both April and Lisa leaning over him. John smiled as he wrapped his arms around them. Both women fell onto his chest and suffered a fierce attack. John began to tickle both of them without mercy, the giggling could be heard throughout the whole house.

John stopped as he looked at April and Lisa trying to catch their breath. Suddenly, Lisa held her mouth with her hand and ran out of the room. John and April chased after her and arrived in the bathroom. John held Lisa's hair as she puked into the toilet and April rubbed her back.

A couple minutes later, she stopped and lifted her head. John grabbed a towel and wiped her lips. Lisa said, "Woah, that came out of nowhere."

April said, "You got that right." Then both women began to laugh together. John looked at this scene and smiled as he rubbed Lisa's back and held April's hand.

John said, "So, do you want breakfast?"

Lisa and April nodded their heads, so John stood up and held out his hand for both of them. They both took his help in standing up before they walked out of the bathroom in front of John. The women walked into the kitchen and John followed behind them. They sat down at the table and John walked over to the fridge and looked inside.

John asked, "So, what do you ladies want for breakfast?"

Lisa said, "Hmm, how about... Crepes."

April said, "That sounds good."

John said, "Sure." John then started to move around the kitchen and put on a show for Lisa and April. When he finished cooking, he put the food on the counter in front of them and watched as they took their first bites. Both of their faces lit up, Lisa looked up at John and saw that he was watching them.

Lisa said, "Say ahh." John played along and opened his mouth, Lisa fed him a small piece of crepe. John chewed for a second before he swallowed.

Lisa asked, "Was it good?" John smiled and nodded. April saw this scene and brought a fork full of her crepe to John's lips. John opened his mouth but just as he was about to bite down. April moved it away and ate it.

Lisa saw this and laughed as she looked at John's face. John smiled as he began to eat his own crepe. John sat down next to them they all ate their breakfast, John was not holding a grudge about the scene before, so he fed both Lisa and April a piece of his crepe.

Both the girls smiled happily as they finished their food. John said suddenly, "Blondie?"

Lisa said, "Yeah, John?"

John asked, "Do you remember what I asked you last night?"

Lisa said, "Yeah, about moving to your house, right?" John nodded.

April asked, "Moving to John's house? Why don't I know about this?"

John said softly, "You were asleep, silly."

April giggled and said, "Oh... Well, what about moving to John's house?"

Lisa said, "John asked if I thought we would want to move to his house."

April asked, "Of course we do, right? You want to, right? Lisa?"

Lisa said, "Of course, I do."

April asked, "So... when do we move?"

John said, "Whenever you want. I can have some friends come over and take your stuff to my house for us."

Lisa asked, "What friends?"

John said, "I have to keep a couple secrets, no?" Lisa stared at him, and April joined in.

John said, "Just some people I met in the city." Lisa and April rolled their eyes as they pouted cutely. John couldn't resist and kissed both of them on their cheek multiple times. The women tried their hardest to resist but they couldn't stop smiles from adorning their faces.

John said, "They are good people. I met them a couple years ago. They helped my old neighbor move as well."

Lisa and April smiled in victory.
