Chapter 56 - Chapter 45

Aleksander, Wednesday, Enid, Dean, and Sam climbed down into the manhole, dropping into the dim, damp sewer below. They spread out, eyes adjusting to the gloom.

Sam broke the silence. "Like you said, Wednesday—the shapeshifter could be using this sewer system to move around."

Enid wrinkled her nose. "Man, it smells awful in here."

Her nose twitched, picking up something beyond normal sewer stink. A strange, unnatural musk—rotting flesh mixed with a metallic tang, like blood. There was something else too, a faint sulfurous scent that didn't belong to any animal or person.

Dean crouched and pointed at the floor. "Look at this."

They leaned in, eyes narrowing on a grim pile of blood, shed skin, and sticky goo. Dean and Aleksander both grimaced at the sight.Dean pulled out his pocketknife, carefully lifting a piece of the skin with the blade.

Aleksander studied it. "This doesn't look fresh. He's shifted recently—in fact, he must still be in Alex's form."Enid sniffed again, her expression tightening. "He's definitely here. I just can't find exactly where."

Dean and Sam headed back to the car to grab their weapons. Aleksander, Wednesday and Enid followed them.

Dean popped the trunk and pulled out his custom M1911A1—its slide engraved, ivory grips inlaid with golden Colt medallions. He grabbed a case of silver bullets, loaded the pistol, and said, "Well, one thing I learned from Dad: no matter what kind of shapeshifter it is, there's one sure way to kill it."

Sam took out his Smith & Wesson 5906, popping in silver rounds as well. "Silver bullet to the heart," he said.

Enid glanced at the guns and muttered, "I don't know how to use these."

Wednesday shrugged. "I'm more of a sword person."

Aleksander unsheathed two blades from his bag. They shifted smoothly from dagger length—about 37 centimeters—to full sword size, roughly 70 to 76 centimeters. The slender steel blades tapered to sharp points, The crossguards flared into elegant curves, leading to ergonomic hilts wrapped in black leather cords. The polished silver-chrome blades caught the light, highlighting the etched runes that ran from crossguard to tip. The pommels ended in simple rounded caps, each bearing a faint Morozova insignia.

Dean raised an eyebrow. "Nice blade."

Sam nodded, watching as Aleksander clenched a grip. Suddenly the runes intricately carved along its flat sides glowed with a blue-white hue. The glowing with a soft blue light that bathed the blade in an ethereal glow—subtle, not harsh.

Sam asked, "What kind of blade is that?"

Aleksander replied calmly, "Rune blade. I made it—engraved with magical runes. Perfect for killing demonic supernaturals."

Dean grinned. "I definitely need one of those."

Sam's phone buzzed. He quickly answered it. It was Rebecca."Zack and Mark are going to be released."

Sam smiled. "That's great."

Aleksander leaned in. "Tell her the shapeshifter is still out there. It's best they stick together, not split up."

Sam nodded, passing on the warning. Rebecca took it seriously.

After that all of them went back into the sewers.

Dean and Sam scanned the sewer with their flashlights and guns. While Aleksander held out his hand, casting a spell. A ball of light hovered in front of them.

Sam muttered, impressed, "Neat."

Dean asked, "Can you teach us some of this?"

Aleksander smiled. "Maybe."

He sensed their bloodline was strong—almost holy.

Dean caught Aleksander's serious tone and got a little excited.

Enid whispered, "Can you teach me too?"

Aleksander smiled at her. He noticed Wednesday watching him intently and said, "I'll teach you when he gets back."

The tunnel narrowed as they moved deeper. Big pipes forced them closer together.

Enid sniffed the air. "He's definitely close."

Dean added, "Yeah, she's right. Think we're near his lair."

Sam frowned. "Why?"

Dean pointed. "Because there's another puke-worthy mess right next to your face."

Sam turned to see a fresh pile of blood and skin smeared on a nearby pipe.He grimaced. "Oh, God."

They scanned the area and spotted a pile of clothes in a corner.Dean said, "Looks like he's been living here a while."

Sam shook his head. "Who knows how many people he's gotten away with killing?"

Aleksander observed, "Given his method, it shouldn't be hard to track him."

Suddenly, the shapeshifter—still in the form of Alex Shindoka —appeared behind Dean and Sam seeing this yelled, "Dean!"

Dean spun around but took a hard punch, crashing to the ground.

Aleksander couldn't risk dangerous spells and instead unleashed a concussive blast of air, sending the shapeshifter flying. The shapeshifter recovered quickly and bolted. Sam fired several shots; they hit but weren't fatal.

Sam rushed to Dean, who groaned in pain.Dean growled, "Get the son of a bitch!"

Aleksander stopped Sam. "Don't worry. I've got a way to track him."He chanted a spell, leaving a glowing trail of light in the shapeshifter's wake. The shapeshifter—still in Aleksander Shinkoda's form—raced through the sewers, then emerged from a manhole and ran off.

Seconds later, Aleksander, Sam, and Dean climbed out, spotting the golden trail. They followed it quickly.

The shapeshifter finally stopped, looking drained. He ripped off his shirt, dropped to his knees, and screamed in pain as he started shedding his skin.Pain wracked his body as the grotesque transformation began.

Bones ground and shifted—wet, sickening cracks echoing through the Abandoned Warehouse. Flesh rippled and stretched unnaturally beneath the surface, like something alive trying to break free.Teeth loosened, then fell out with wet plops onto the floor. Fresh, sharper teeth pushed through swollen gums, perfectly reshaping the mouth.

Fingernails and toenails peeled away in shredded layers, replaced instantly by new, sharper ones fitting the copied form.

The shapeshifter tore off his old skin in thick, slimy sheets that hung from his body like rotten fabric before dropping to the concrete in a slick, bloody mess.

Beneath the discarded husk, the new form was flawless—a perfect replica of Dean, down to the hair, eyes, and subtle facial lines.
