Chapter 21 - 21

You have such a good mindset." Harry was amused by Law, then turned to Chu Yang and said enviously, "Chu Yang will definitely get the highest score."

"That's true, Chu Yang's brain is not something an ordinary person can compare to. I think only that girl can catch up to him." Law smacked his lips, agreeing with Harry's thoughts.

Hermione, who was in sync with them, looked at Chu Yang seriously, saying with a mix of defiance and resignation, "You'll probably get first place in this exam, but only this once. I guarantee that in all future exams, my score will be higher than yours!"

Although he knew Hermione had guessed wrong about the sorting ceremony, Chu Yang still felt a headache, because he couldn't back down on this issue.

Hogwarts' favoritism towards geniuses was very obvious.

Excellent learning ability and the halo of being first in his year could help Chu Yang gain some small privileges, such as reading books in the library that ordinary students couldn't.

Moreover, the professors and teachers at the school were more willing to give special tutoring to gifted students, all of which allowed Chu Yang to learn a lot of knowledge.

Just as the new students were letting their imaginations run wild, McGonagall rushed to the infirmary and happened to see Madam Pomfrey, the matron, treating Malfoy, while Hagrid stood by anxiously.

"Hagrid!" McGonagall called out softly after entering the room.

"Oh! McGonagall!" Hagrid jumped, feeling a bit guilty and not daring to meet McGonagall's gaze, as strictly speaking, this was his work error.

"Madam Pomfrey, how is this child?" McGonagall slowly walked to the matron's side and asked anxiously, "Does he need to be transferred to St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries for treatment?"

"McGonagall, don't worry, it's not that serious." Madam Pomfrey smiled, "This new student just drank some dirty water and caught a cold from the chill. He'll be fine after two or three days of rest."

McGonagall breathed a sigh of relief, finally feeling at ease. Then she turned to Hagrid and asked, "Before I came, I heard some ridiculous stories from those children. Can you tell me what really happened?"

Hagrid scratched his head and said, "When I turned back, he had already fallen into the lake. As for how he fell in, I didn't see it, but there was indeed something in the lake at that time!"

McGonagall stated confidently, "We all know there are magical creatures in the Black Lake, but certainly not in that area. The designated protected area is a covenant Hogwarts made with them a long time ago, and they wouldn't dare to ambush students under Dumbledore's nose!"

"Compared to that, I suspect someone used magic. Using offensive magic on a classmate is a very serious misconduct."

Hagrid immediately shook his head and said, "McGonagall, I was nearby at the time and didn't feel any magical fluctuations. Besides, all those students' wands were left on the train. You don't think any of them are powerful enough to cast wandless magic, do you?"

"Hagrid, not everyone follows the rules and regulations." McGonagall took a deep breath and said in a low voice, "After the sorting ceremony, I will check them one by one to see if they are hiding wands."

Chapter 31 The sorting hat's Fear

In the common room next to the Great Hall, the new students were all waiting for McGonagall to return, many of them having already resigned themselves to the exam.

After all, a person who hasn't reviewed might be anxious before an exam, but when they know that most people haven't reviewed, giving up becomes a collective joy.

"How many times today do I have to tell you to be quiet?" McGonagall stood at the door at some point, gazing at the students in the common room like a homeroom teacher.

The shadows of the past surfaced, making Chu Yang, who was usually calm and composed, shiver intensely.

"Now, all of you, line up and prepare to go to the Great Hall, where you will complete your sorting ceremony."

Under McGonagall's sharp gaze, the new students quickly stood up.

They quickly lined up and obediently followed behind McGonagall.

McGonagall led the new students out of the side door and turned towards the main hall entrance. As they approached, the door opened automatically, and everyone walked into the magnificent hall.

In the hall, there were four long tables, each occupied by one of the four houses, and at the very top, a slightly smaller long table was set aside for the teachers.

Thousands of candles floated in the air of the Great Hall, illuminating it as if it were daytime.

On both sides were statues, with burning braziers hanging from them.

The ceiling was enchanted to look like the night sky, with stars occasionally appearing, giving the illusion of dining outdoors.

At first glance, Chu Yang found the Great Hall somewhat stunning, but his thoughts quickly shifted.

"It would be great if the candles were replaced with LED lights with adjustable color temperature. Candlelight is unstable and quite dazzling, and it also detracts from the ceiling's scenery."

Magical as it was, Chu Yang, who was gradually becoming familiar with Hogwarts, felt that it was diverging from the development of the Muggle world.

The wizarding world was like a stubborn old person, conservative and afraid of change, stagnating with a decaying aura, while the Muggle world had boarded the train of time and was rapidly advancing.

Chu Yang knew clearly how much change technology would bring to the entire world within the next two decades. If this generation of young wizards didn't make changes, the status between wizards and Muggles might completely change.

As Chu Yang was lost in thought, he suddenly felt someone watching him. He followed the gaze and saw Dumbledore, who was sitting in the center of the teachers' table.

This old wizard, known for his wisdom, the most powerful and prestigious in the wizarding world, was observing Chu Yang with curious eyes.

Not far from him, Professor Sprout, the Herbology professor, was also waving at Chu Yang.

And constantly pointing to herself with her finger.

What does that mean?

Is she telling me to choose Hufflepuff?

Chu Yang stared, looking bewildered.

This made Sprout so anxious that she almost stood up and shouted.

"Ahem." Dumbledore, seeing this, quickly coughed.

He motioned for Sprout to be mindful of her demeanor, and she could only give up and sit properly.

However, such a small interlude caught the attention of Professor Snape, who was beside Dumbledore.

Originally, his attention was on Harry Potter…

Besides Snape, Quirrell, possessed by Voldemort, was also observing Chu Yang.

To be precise, Voldemort on him was stirring.

In front of the teachers' dining table was a four-legged stool, on which rested a worn-out, pointed hat, patched here and there.

It was hard to believe that this was the sorting hat, imbued with the thoughts of the four founders of Hogwarts!

As McGonagall led the new students to the sorting hat, the Great Hall became exceptionally quiet, because everyone knew what was about to happen.

"Before the sorting ceremony begins, Headmaster Dumbledore has a few words to say to everyone."

As soon as McGonagall finished speaking, the elderly Dumbledore stood up to speak. He didn't say much, mainly two points: reminding the new students not to enter the Forbidden Forest nearby, and also the corridor on the third floor to the right.

Chu Yang really wasn't very interested in the corridor on the third floor to the right; even if Dumbledore hadn't reminded him, Chu Yang didn't plan to go.

But the Forbidden Forest…

That was a good place to make money. Never mind Dumbledore, not even the King of Heaven himself could stop Chu Yang.

"Now, those whose names are called, please step forward. I will place the sorting hat on your head, and then it will decide which house you will go to." McGonagall picked up the sorting hat, her eyes fixed on the list in her hand, ready to call out names.

"Is it that simple to be sorted?"

"What about the exam, Hermione?"

"Oh my goodness, as long as there's no exam, any sorting is fine."

As the new students whispered among themselves, McGonagall began calling names. The first one on the list was the future owner of the Leaky Cauldron—Hannah Abbott.

As the saying goes, protagonists come and go, but Hannah is forever.

When Chu Yang heard her name, he suddenly remembered this long-standing golden phrase.

"Hufflepuff!"

Chu Yang was still sighing when McGonagall's voice came from beside him.

"Chu Yang!"

Chu Yang took a deep breath and stepped out from the crowd.

As a transmigrator who didn't belong to this world, Chu Yang still felt a lot of pressure when facing the sorting hat.

Because he wasn't sure to what extent the sorting hat's Legilimency could reach.

Could it only read shallow personality traits?

Or could it directly read memories?

Chu Yang had thought about trying to avoid the sorting hat segment, but when he noticed Dumbledore watching him, he immediately dismissed the idea.

Playing tricks in front of the greatest wizard of the time was not a wise choice.

His head felt heavy, and Chu Yang came back to his senses, realizing that the sorting hat was already on his head. He could only pray now that the sorting hat's effect wasn't as strong as he imagined.

On the other side, the moment the sorting hat landed on Chu Yang's head, it couldn't detect anything, as if it had been placed on a stone.

This greatly surprised the sorting hat. In a thousand years, it had never encountered such a situation before. Could it be that it was old and in disrepair? But that was impossible; it had signed a contract with the entire Hogwarts. The Book of Admittance and the Quill of Acceptance, those two silent fellows, weren't broken yet, so how could it break first?

Just as the sorting hat was about to go full throttle and increase its efforts…

It sensed a vast and ethereal palace.

It was a building more magnificent and imposing than Hogwarts itself!

Then, some things vaguely emerged…

Thrones!

Countless thrones!

When it wanted to figure out some situation!

Whether the thrones were dilapidated or intact, they all burst forth with an irresistible power!

On nearly a hundred thrones, densely packed figures materialized!

Those figures suddenly opened their eyes and stared coldly at the sorting hat.

In reality, the sorting hat suddenly let out a horrified shriek!

Chapter 32 The sorting hat Can't Decide Your Future

The sudden shriek startled everyone in the Great Hall!

McGonagall trembled all over, subconsciously stepping back a few paces. The other teachers looked horrified, showing expressions of disbelief.

Professor Snape and Headmaster Dumbledore simultaneously stood up in shock.

Professor Quirrell, possessed by Voldemort, stared intently at Chu Yang.

In Hogwarts' nearly thousand-year history, such a scene had never occurred!

What on earth happened to the sorting hat? How could it let out such a tragic scream?
