Kyle talks into his radio.
Kyle: Dad, we're in a loading bay near the railroad track. We need a way up to the top of the cliff.
Andrew speaks through the radio.
Andrew: There's an elevator in the back.
Sarah: I see it.
Kyle, Sarah, Cassandra and Caleb locate and enter the elevator in the far back of the loading bay.
Cassandra: And this freaking facility's been here all this time during the apocalypse?
Sarah: With most of the Kronos scientists. At least the ones that were smart enough to come here after we banished them into the wasteland.
Kyle: No, these scientists were top priority scientists. Not all of them.
Caleb: Wait, but why didn't scientists like Fenix or Catherine come here?
Kyle: Because they wanted to try and help make the wasteland safer for others. These scientists here didn't give a shit.
Cassandra scoffs.
Kyle: Karma's a bitch, ain't it?
Kyle presses the elevator button as it takes the four survivors up, but suddenly powers down and stops on the third floor.
Caleb: This is not the top floor.
Kyle: Could be an ambush.
After a tense pause, the Condemned launch an attack.
Sarah: Yep! Definitely an ambush!
Kyle, Sarah, Cassandra and Caleb engage the Condemned through the third floor, before climbing up a ladder that leads to the top of the cliff and outside, where they finally reach the maelstrom facility.
Cassandra: My god. There it is. Wonder how many years it took the military to build it.
Kyle: With the world in ruins and us fighting each other, they had all the time in the world.
Caleb: doubt they were going to share with the rest of the people.
Kyle, Sarah, Cassandra and Caleb engage a small Condemned army, before entering the maelstrom facility.
Kyle: C'mon! We need to find the generator room.
Kyle, Sarah, Cassandra and Caleb look at generator powering up the storm from the outlook of another room.
Caleb: Damn, man.
Kyle: Any advice, Dad?
Andrew: You'll need to shut down four switches. That it'll shut down the whole generator by its' stages, but there'll be Condemned waiting for you, son.
Kyle: It's fine by me. It's been a daily routine of killing these monsters for the past two years....Dad, I'm sorry. If I had known you were alive, I would've came much more sooner....saved more lives.
Andrew: Don't apologize, son. Please. It's my fault all this happened. I'm the one who needs some forgiveness. I should've been there for you and your brother. I've cost you a childhood. I see the pain I've cost you. I see you've suffered and lost a lot.
Kyle: I have, but I don't deserve pity. I worked for Kronos too. I lied.....I've hurt the ones I love.....and I've killed.
Andrew: We've all had to kill at one point in this world what it is now.
A short pause.
Kyle: I've lost very close friends of mine.....good people.....I can remember so few of my friends.....Dante. Mitchell. Billy. Walter. Alexandria.
Kyle looks at Sarah.
Kyle: My sister in law.....I killed my brother in law...
Kyle sighs.
Kyle: He's gone, Dad.....Jake's dead.
Andrew gives a visibly saddened look, hearing about the loss of his oldest son.
Andrew: I'm so sorry, Kyle. I wish I could bring him back. Tell me, boy. Who did your brother become in this broken world? What kind of person did my oldest child?
Kyle smiles.
Kyle: We had our differences....he was a great man.....brave....determined.....he had a wife....but....Dad, he tried....to start his own family.....Goddammit...he would've been a great Dad....
Andrew smiles.
Andrew: How.....how did he die?
Kyle sighs.
Andrew: It's okay if you don't want to—
Kyle: No, I...I need to....he saved my life....he saved all of our lives....we had our differences...but he was still a great brother....you would've been so proud of him, Dad.
Andrew: I'm so sorry, son. I truly am. All those lives you mentioned, they're all accounted for the work I contributed to Kronos, but I'm going to make it all right. I'm going to make sure people like you have a future. I promise you, my boy. I will make this right.
Behind Andrew is a vile of a counter measure fluid for the radioactive fluid. In the switch room, Kyle, Sarah, Cassandra and Caleb engage the Condemned while attempting to throw the switches to the maelstrom generator. Eventually, the survivors manage to throw all four switches, but the maelstrom is still active.
Caleb: What the fuck? It's supposed to shut off, man!
Andrew: The maelstrom's still working, son! What the hell happened?
Kyle: Well, we shut the goddamned thing down! Is there another power supply?
Andrew: They must have one somewhere else.
Cassandra: Fuck!
Kyle: Shit. That could take hours to try and find; Time we don't have.
Sarah: We're screwed then.
Andrew: Not necessarily. You can still shut down the maelstrom by turning off the coolant system. Be warned; it'll make a helluva explosion.
Kyle: That works for me. Let's locate those valves!
Andrew: Kyle, you're going to have to get out of there fast, boy.
Kyle: Don't worry, Dad. We'll get out in time. Blew up big ass cannon once from the inside.
Andrew: Son, I heard about that story. You lead a army of Bloodhogs to stop Kronos. Amazing....
Kyle: Uh....yeah....
Andrew: What happened?
Kyle: Dad, can we talk about my history with Kronos later?
Kyle, Sarah, Cassandra and Caleb enter the coolant room, where Condemned forces attack.
Condemned Drone: Don't let them deactivate the coolants!
Kyle: Sarah! Cassandra! Hold them off! Caleb, with me! We got the coolants!
Kyle and Caleb manage to turn off two coolant valves. Kyle grunts.
Caleb: Damn! These things are heavy to turn! Okay, we got four more!
The Condemned Forces continue attacking, before Brutes and armored Priests enter the fight as Kyle and Caleb continue turning the third and fourth valves.
Caleb: Oh, shit! The shit's getting real, dude!
Sarah and Cassandra continue holding off Condemned forces.
While turning the fifth valve, Caleb is slashed on the back by a Brute Condemned, but manages to blow the Brutes' head off with his 12 gauge shotgun. Kyle turns the sixth and final valve.
Kyle: Caleb! You okay?!
Kyle tends to Caleb.
Caleb: Yeah, I'm good!
With the coolant valves deactivated, the maelstrom generator begins to explode in a critical stage.
Kyle: Not good!
Sarah: Everybody run! Now!
Andrew speaks through the radio.
Andrew: Get out of there, Kyle! Now, boy!
With the maelstrom facility exploding, Kyle, Sarah, Cassandra and Caleb sprint to the exit of the maelstrom facility and manage to escape, before the maelstrom generator explodes, unleashing a powerful electric surge. After a few brief moments, the maelstrom ceases as the sun sets on the island.
Andrew: You okay, Kyle?! Goddamn it, boy! Answer me!
Kyle: We're okay, Professor. Stand by.
Caleb: Wow. Look at that, man. Talk about that song "rain, rain, go away".
Sarah talks into the radio.
Sarah: Sarah to Shawn. James? Can anyone hear me?!
James talks through the radio.
James: Hell yeah, we can hear you! We figured it was you guys when we heard a big ass explosion coming from an island. Sounds like you guys are having all the fun, man!
Sarah: James, where are you?
Shawn talks through the radio.
Shawn: We're inbound, Sarah! The Calvary is here! Yeah!
Cassandra taps Sarahs' shoulder and points out in the distance a Navy ship marked the U.S. Wolf with an army of helicopters and other cargo ships.
Cassandra: Oh, my god. It's the U.S. Wolf. It's a Native American Ship! My Mom told me about them.
Shawn: Yeah, we're having a family reunion with our Indian friends, baby! Time to curb stomp these assholes once and for all. You ready to get this show on the road, Kyle?!
Kyle: Yeah, let's do it.
A helicopter lands down on the island as Shawn, James and an active J.A.X exit the chopper and approach Kyle, Sarah, Cassandra and Caleb.
James: You know I was expecting a big smile on your faces. Chocolates and flowers. Did you not miss us?
James turns to Cassandra.
James: Sure missed you, babe.
Shawn scoffs.
Shawn: Oh, Jesus.
James: When you get yourself a hot girlfriend, big brother, you'll understand. Ask Jenny out and you'llfind out faster.
Shawn laughs. James turns to face Kyle, Sarah, Cassandra and Caleb, then frowns.
James: Wait.....where's Jake and Woody?
Kyle: Woody took the submarine offshore. He's safe...Jake.....my brother didn't make it.
Shawn and James give shocked looks on their face and are saddened by the loss of their comrade and friend.
James: Oh....oh, fuck, man.
Shawn: Kyle, man....I-I'm sorry. Jake was a good man.
Kyle: He was...
Shawn: We're going to make them pay! We're going to make them fucking pay!
Kyle: My brother got us this far, so let's end this.
Kyle turns to Cassandra and Caleb.
Kyle: Cassandra. Caleb. You two are hurt. You get back to the ship and help them out. They need info on where to land their troops.
Caleb: But Kyle, we can fight. You need us with you and--
Kyle: I'm not having any more blood on my hands today.
Cassandra: But-
Kyle: I'm not asking you; I'm telling you. Move out.
Cassandra and Caleb head to the ship, before James calls to Cassandra.
James: Cassandra....I'll see you after this.
Cassandra: Looking forward to it, babe.
Cassandra kisses James, before leaving with Caleb.
Kyle: Alright, guys. We're heading for the primary tower for my father. Let's not just do this for Jake, but for everyone else we've lost. For Mitchell....Walter....Alexandria.....Ashley.....this is where it's going to end. One way or another.
