Chapter 4 - Chapter4: Dreams Do Not Come True

Seratina thanked Lance and the receptionist one more time and left the guild. Before she could turn around to head back to the carriage she felt like she recognized someone and looked over that way. When she thought "ah" the other person also noticed Seratina. Those sharp cold gray eyes flickered. His eyes went wide for a second then he looked away.

He was Schwartz had the saintess Lucia by his side. They were linking arms and dating like lovers. Today they had no plans so it was fine but now she got it. He had been ditching his dates with Seratina to go out with Lucia like that every time. She was relieved that she had never really fallen for Schwartz.

This was also because she had her past life memories.

She had no idea why she had past life memories, but she was thankful for them lots of times. She nodded at him and headed toward the carriage. When she got to the carriage Nadia who had bought the opera cakes came running over looking worried and called out "Lady Seratina!"

"Sorry to keep you waiting. It looks like you were able to buy the cakes. Good job good job."

"Where did you go Milady?"

"Just somewhere. It was not a dangerous place so do not worry."

"But..."

"It is fine. I will not cause trouble for anyone. Nadia you are such a worrier."

"But.. sigh… I understand."

She was relieved that Nadia was convinced. She got into the carriage and once Nadia was in too, she told the coachman to get going.

Back at the mansion she asked Nadia to bring cakes and tea later and Seratina went to her room by herself. On the way she met Elsa who had bought jewelry from a merchant. The necklace around her neck was made of sapphire. Even though Seratina had not asked Elsa told her the price anyway but Seratina was not interested. She just said "It looks good on you" and tried to head to her room quickly.

"Sis, I ended up buying one for you too. If I had not told mom about it, you would not have gotten any jewelry so you should thank me."

"Ah I do not need it. You can have it."

"You do not need it...?"

"Yes. It suits you better than me. I only dress up when there are parties."

"...I-I see."

She figured Elsa who loved expensive jewelry would be happy even if she made some snarky comment about it, but Elsa looked pretty down instead. Her back looked lonely as she shuffled away.

Was it jewelry that Elsa did not like? If so I am sorry.

Seratina figured if Elsa did not want it either she would probably just sell it later. She finally went back to her room.

---

"Ah I do not need it."

"To be told that she does not need it..."

It was unexpected. I should have honestly said it was sister's jewelry. My jewelry was also a necklace made of sapphire. My little dream of having matching necklaces with my sister even if they had different designs just got crushed.

I went back to my room feeling down and plopped down on the sofa.

"...At this point... there is no way we can become close..."

I know I have gone too far to fix things now. It would take tons of work and patience to make up for it. But I cannot do it easily. If I could do it, I would not be struggling.

I want to get along with my sister. I want to be able to say anything honestly to her.

At first my parents influenced me, so I hated sister and made fun of how Schwartz did not love her. When I did that, my parents only loved me and gave me whatever I wanted. I thought my sister with her weird magical talent that did not fit our family was not needed. I was such an idiot for thinking that.

Ever since my sister helped me three years ago, I have felt terrible about everything. I kept thinking about how to say sorry to sister and how to talk to her but when I actually tried to do it everything went wrong and made things worse. No matter what I say, sister does not care and just deals with it calmly. Like last night when something is wrong with me, she points it out and helps me. When she fixed my loose ribbon I was very happy. I wish I could have told her that with words.

While we were looking at the jewelry the merchant had set out my mother wanted to look like a good mom in front of other people, so she told a servant to go get Seratina. I think my sister said she was going out... While I was trying to remember the servant came back and told my mother that Seratina was not there. My mother got really mad.

"I have not heard anything about this! You! Go look again!"

"B-but Lady Seratina really is not here! Nadia is not here either so she might have gone to town."

I figured I needed to calm my mother down first so I stepped in.

"Now now Mother. Any jewelry is fine for my sister. She should just be happy with whatever she gets."

"That is right! Let us give Seratina something cheap. Expensive things do not suit her."

No matter what the price was I picked the same sapphire for the necklace because I wanted to have matching ones with Seratina even if just a little bit.

That dream got crushed pretty easily and never happened...
