Chapter 299: Eternal Mangekyo
"I see. That is quite a terrifying genjutsu."
Having seized control of the genjutsu space, Kyosuke had experienced firsthand the horrifying power of its ability to reflect the depths of the human heart.
Under the illumination of his own projected psyche, Uchiha Hiroshi had lasted less than three hours before his mind completely collapsed, lost forever in an endless hallucination. Even after the genjutsu was lifted, he would likely remain a gibbering, broken shell of a man for the rest of his life.
"Hehehe... Cho, will you marry me...?"
"Uchiha Kyosuke... I've finally defeated you... hahahaha!"
Kyosuke, having returned from the genjutsu space, looked at the muttering, delusional Hiroshi with a sneer. He stepped forward and, without hesitation, gouged out Hiroshi's eyes.
Normally, such intense pain would cause a body to seize up, but Hiroshi continued his incoherent rambling, seemingly oblivious to the physical trauma.
Ignoring him, Kyosuke walked over to Uchiha Cho. He pulled a syringe from his pocket and injected a prepared antidote into her body.
A few minutes later, her stopped heart began to beat again. Her condition improved rapidly. Though her injuries were still severe, she was no longer in critical danger.
She slowly opened her eyes. When she saw Kyosuke, a look of pure joy spread across her face.
"Lord Kyosuke! Was the mission a success?" she asked hurriedly.
Kyosuke smiled and met her expectant gaze. "Yes. It was a success. You've worked hard."
"Not at all! As a Secret Guard, it is my duty to serve you!" Cho said, blushing furiously.
Uchiha Cho and Uchiha Genbo were both Secret Guards under Kyosuke's command. But unlike Number 7 and the others, they lived as ordinary clan members, blending in with the population.
Their purpose was to secretly monitor the clan and report any dissenters like Hiroshi to Kyosuke.
From the very beginning, Hiroshi's "ambitions" had been completely under Kyosuke's control. The only reason he had allowed Hiroshi to live this long was for the sake of the Eternal Mangekyo.
Otherwise, he could have executed him back on the battlefield with any number of excuses.
After talking for a while, Cho seemed to remember something. She turned her head, searching for Hiroshi.
Seeing his vacant, drooling expression and hearing him occasionally mutter her name, her own expression darkened.
After a long silence, she turned back to Kyosuke. "Lord Kyosuke... please allow me to kill him myself. It is... the only compensation I can offer him."
Kyosuke studied her face for a moment, then nodded.
He placed the eyes in a jar of special preservation fluid and turned to leave.
"I'll give you one minute."
"Understood!"
Soon, having dealt with the loose ends, Kyosuke used the Flying Thunder God to return Cho to the clan compound.
After giving her some instructions, he teleported to his secret base on the cliff.
His assistants rushed forward to greet him. Kyosuke held up the jar containing the eyes. "Prepare for the transplant."
"Yes, sir!"
For the next few days, Kyosuke remained in the base, constantly monitoring the feedback from his new eyes.
The results were exactly as he had predicted. Even though he and Hiroshi were not directly related by blood, the eyes were reacting positively.
Since the surgery, his dōjutsu power limit had been steadily increasing. He was now confident that he would awaken the Eternal Mangekyo.
Even if the experiment had failed, he had prepared a backup plan—a fusion serum developed from the analysis of his own blood. He believed that with its help, he could have achieved the Eternal Eye regardless.
But it seemed he wouldn't need it. Still, the serum wouldn't go to waste. Not everyone had a spare pair of eyes lying around. If Fugaku or Shisui ever went blind, he could use the serum to help them awaken their own Eternal Mangekyo.
Sitting on the operating table, Kyosuke focused on the sensation in his eyes. "Remove the bandages," he ordered.
"Yes, my lord."
As the bandages were unwound, a sliver of light pierced the darkness—the bright light of the operating lamp.
He took a moment to prepare himself, then opened his eyes.
Reflected in his vision was a complex, geometric pattern: a black shuriken shape, connected by three bars.
The Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, successfully awakened!
Feeling the boundless, surging dōjutsu power within his eyes, the corners of Kyosuke's mouth curled into an uncontrollable smile.
"Finally... success."
"Now, I need to test its capabilities."
Meanwhile, Uchiha Cho returned home. After a moment of thought, she went alone to Uchiha Genbo's residence.
Knock, knock, knock.
After receiving permission, she entered the room.
Genbo was sitting on the tatami, toying with a teacup. He didn't need to look up to know who it was.
"Sit." He gestured to the spot across from him. Cho sat down unceremoniously.
"Mission complete?"
"Complete."
"And Hiroshi...?"
"Dead. I killed him myself."
"...I see."
Cho looked at the calm Genbo and hesitated. "He was your student. Are you not sad at all?"
"I told you. Anyone who opposes Lord Kyosuke must die," Genbo said, looking up at her. Cho knew it was a warning.
"Heh." She laughed coldly, her eyes glinting. "Regardless, I killed your only student. I should offer you some compensation."
"Interesting. Let's hear it." Genbo's expression remained impassive, revealing nothing of his true thoughts. So, Cho simply stated her purpose.
"I want to become your student."
"Oh? And why is that?"
"I want to help Lord Kyosuke. Help him more."
"I see."
Genbo thought for a moment, then nodded in agreement.
"Great!" Cho smiled, genuinely happy.
With his training, my strength will improve even further. Then, I can be of even greater use to Lord Kyosuke...
