Chapter 233 - Chapter 233 Head

The Pentagon, Basement.

Ross signed the paperwork and once again entered the classified storage room, retrieving two vials of 'Super Soldier' serum. Looking at the pale blue liquid, Ross gave a snort.

Those fools. Sitting on a goldmine without even knowing it, spending massive funds on weapons instead. If they hadn't stopped the genetic serum research back then, the Army wouldn't have lost so badly in those wars, and the world wouldn't be in this terrible state.

He returned to the injection room, still indignant. Blonsky was already undressed and lying on the surgical bed.

The doctor took the syringes. "Major Blonsky, same as last time. One in the muscle, one in the spine."

Blonsky nodded, steeled for it. To be stronger, this pain was nothing.

The doctor administered the intramuscular shot, then the surgical bed flipped over.

"Starting."

He took an extra-long needle and inserted it into Blonsky's spine.

The same agonizing pain, enough to make a man pass out, returned. Blonsky gritted his teeth, his brow furrowed, but endured the injection process without a sound.

The doctor withdrew the needle, nodding in approval. "It's done, Major."

The bed flipped back. Blonsky slowly sat up.

"Go home and rest. Wait for the serum to take effect. Tomorrow morning, don't report to me. Go directly to the base and lead your special ops team to New York. Military liaison will meet you there with your orders."

"Understood, General."

Blonsky got dressed and left the Pentagon to go home and rest. His spine throbbed with pain, but he dismissed it as a normal reaction and unconcerned.

But what he didn't know was, his spine had already begun to protrude, becoming like a monster's.

.........

New York, Joker Organization Hideout.

The Hulk problem wasn't resolved, so to prevent any accidents, David and the others stayed the night. After a night with Harley, Jason got up early and brought the team to the west-suburb lab.

"Boss!"

The guards had just finished changing shifts; the day shift was eating breakfast.

The lab was abnormally quiet, save for the hum of machinery and the snores of the research staff.

"Anything abnormal last night?"

"No, all normal. The man's been given a sedative every hour. Hasn't woken up. The woman's been quiet, too."

"Good."

Jason and his crew sat, eating breakfast and waiting for Dr. Sterns to wake up.

He'd reportedly worked until dawn, which was the only reason he was allowed to sleep in. Otherwise, the guards would have kicked him awake.

An hour or so later, Dr. Sterns emerged. He looked panicked when he saw Jason waiting, like a failing student suddenly being praised by the principal.

Jason put down his coffee cup. "Is the suppressant ready?"

"Yes. I finished it early this morning."

"Good. What's the procedure? What do you need from me?"

Sterns pointed to the equipment in the work area. "The suppressant must be injected after Banner fully transforms. During that time, we can't let him pull out the IVs."

"So, restrain him. Got it. Stop the sedative injections, let him wake up. Also, for security, make several backups of the data and the serum. I'll have them stored off-site."

"Okay, boss!"

......

Breakfast finished, backups made, everything was ready.

Banner was strapped to a surgical bed, IV lines in his arms connecting to the suppressant.

A large area of the lab was cleared. Sterns and his staff left, leaving only Jason and his three partners.

Three hours after the sedatives stopped, Banner, who had been asleep for a day and a night, finally woke.

He opened his eyes. Everything was blurry. His head was dizzy, groggy, and throbbed with pain.

"Bruce!" Seeing him wake, Betty, cuffed in the corner, cried out.

"Betty!" Banner's eyes lit up. He tried to turn his head.

With a slight effort, he felt his limbs bound. He looked down and saw thick steel cables.

He panicked, struggling and yelling, "Betty, where are we? Are you okay?"

Just then, a familiar face appeared.

Banner stopped struggling, his eyes filled with disbelief. "Jason! You kidnapped me?"

"Hmph. It seems you don't share memories with your other self."

"Hulk?" Banner frowned, searching his memory. He only remembered being at Culver station with Betty, about to head to New York... then the soldiers, being cornered on the sky bridge... and then nothing.

"You... You beat the Hulk?"

Jason sneered. "Yes. And it was easier than I thought."

"Really? That doesn't sound true," Banner said, defiant.

"Why did you bring us here? If it's to force me to join you, don't bother. I'd rather die. Besides, I don't think you can kill me."

"Really!" Jason snapped his fingers. A guard dragged Betty over.

Jason grabbed her hair, lifting her off the ground with one arm, his face a snarl. "Now, you want to repeat that?"

"Shit! Damn it, let her go! Come at me with whatever you've got!" Banner's veins bulged, his face turned crimson. The medical bed creaked.

"Yes, that's it, get angry, or else..."

"Ah!!" Jason tightened his grip, and Betty screamed.

"NO!!!" Banner roared, the veins in his neck turning green.

It's starting.

The three tensed, ready to use their powers.

Banner began to transform. His muscles swelled, bones cracked, skin turning from white to green.

"Interesting." This was Jason's first time seeing the change, his eyes filled with excitement.

He tossed Betty out of the work area, coated his team in energy shields, and walked to the machine to administer the suppressant.

Clang! Snap! Snap!

The steel cables burst. The medical bed collapsed under the weight, and Hulk crashed to the floor.

Wait for it... wait for it...

ROAR!!!

The transformation complete, Hulk stared at Jason, his eyes red.

Hmph. He remembers me.

Jason hit the injection button. The suppressant flowed into the Hulk. The Hulk, highly alert, sensed the IVs were bad and reached to rip them out.

"Now!" Jason yelled.

His team struck. Infrasound, ice, and a spatial lock!

The triple-control hit, and Hulk froze, unable to move.

The suppressant flowed in. Everyone watched.

Did it work? Or fail?

After a few seconds, Hulk reacted.

Like an overinflated doll, he deflated, his massive body shrinking, the green fading from his skin. Soon, he was just Banner again.

Jason sighed in relief and signaled them to drop their powers.

Sterns and the researchers returned, staring at the weak Banner like a zoo animal.

"Did it work?" Jason asked.

Sterns shook his head. "This is only the first test. We can't be sure if it just suppressed this transformation, or if it eliminated the Hulk."

"So how do we test it?"

"Simple. We use violence or other means to force the Hulk out. See if it works."

"Violence? I understand."

Jason clenched his right fist, a wisp of blue energy swirling around it.

"Dr. Sterns, I'm asking one more time. Whether Banner lives or dies makes no difference to the research, right?"

"Sir, you've asked many times. Don't worry."

"You! What are you doing?" Betty suddenly charged at them.

Two guards tackled her, pinning her to the floor.

"What am I doing? The answer is obvious, isn't it, Dr. Banner?" Jason crouched by him, sneering.

"No! He's just a normal person now! He's no threat! Please, let him go!" Betty screamed from the floor.

"Threat or not, we have to test it. And considering this might be our last conversation, I want to ask you..." Jason looked at Banner with cold eyes. "Right now, at this very moment, do you regret that conversation we had in Brazil?"

Banner was weak, his body limp, like he'd just left a sauna.

He stared at Jason and mouthed, "Fuck you!"

"Hmph. What a pity."

A vicious light gleamed in Jason's eyes. He raised his fist and smashed it down at Banner's face.

"NO!"

SPLAT!

The energized fist punched a crater in the floor.

Blood and brains instantly splattered everywhere.

The clean lab was stained red, the thick smell of blood filling the air.

Jason slowly stood up, his body covered in gore. But a thin, blue energy shield had protected his skin.

He waved his hand, and the shield, along with the blood and gore, fell to the floor.

Looking at Banner's motionless body, Jason smiled cruelly.

"Your head's been blown to bits. Let's see if you die this time!"
