The kitchen was a stark contrast to the quiet, modern living room. While equally sleek, it held the lingering scent of Jamie's hurried sandwich-making and the sharper, almost metallic tang of the mate bond, now heavily present in the air between them. Jamie moved to the fridge, grabbing a bottle of water, while Jayden leaned against the counter, his eyes fixed on the empty living room where Katy now stood alone.
"She came," Jayden murmured, a low satisfaction in his voice. "Couldn't resist, could she? Even with no party."
Jamie took a long swig of water. "Her scent is... incredible," Jayden . Sweeter than I remembered. "It's almost overwhelming now that she's so close." He could practically taste it, a delicious, intoxicating aroma that promised everything his wolf craved. "And she was nervous, you saw it. But still, she came in."
Jayden nodded, his golden eyes distant, already running scenarios. "I felt it too, the tremor in her scent. The hesitation. But curiosity won out. That's good. It means she's open to us, even if she doesn't know it yet." He paused, his gaze hardening. "She's even more beautiful up close than from afar, isn't she? Her hair, those eyes... and that dress. She went into trouble."
Jamie's hand tightened on the water bottle. "Don't let her nervousness fool you, though. She's observant. She picked up on the books, the 'childbirth' one especially. We need to be careful not to overwhelm her."
"We will be," Jayden assured him, his voice firm. The plan remains. We get her comfortable, make her feel safe here. Let the bond pull her in. Tonight." His gaze met Jamie's, a silent, powerful communication passing between them. "This is it, brother. Tonight, we make her ours."
Jamie felt a surge of raw, possessive heat. The wolf inside him was practically howling in agreement. Control was a thin veneer now, stretched taut by Katy's proximity. "She's ours," he echoed, the words a guttural promise. "Tonight."
