Chapter 29 writer's POV
"You may leave, Onyi" the king command Onyi sensing his distress.
Onyi stood up, his movement weak and tired "I'll be on my way, his highness" Onyi bowed. " But make sure, my daughter doesn't hear about this" he warned Onyi and Onyi nodded
The king nodded, a hint of a smile on his face. "Good, Onyi. I knew I could count on you."
As Onyi turned to leave, Alexis rose from his seat, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Your Majesty," he said, his voice low and cautious. "May I have a word with you?"
The king's expression turned cold, his eyes glinting with annoyance. "What is it, Alexis?" he asked curtly.
Alexis waited until Onyi had left the room before speaking. "Why all the lies about the temple, Your Majesty?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. "Why must Onyi join us on this mission?"
The king's expression didn't change, but his voice took on a slightly menacing tone. "You dare to question my methods, Alexis?" he asked. "Onyi is important, that's final, unlike you..."
Alexis felt a surge of anger at the king's words, but he kept his temper in check. "I see," he said, his voice neutral. "And what about your promise to me? You promised me Amanda's hand in marriage, Your Majesty. Do you still intend to keep that promise?"
The king's expression didn't change, but his voice was dismissive. "Amanda?" he said. "I'm afraid that's no longer a priority, Alexis. You will play your part in this plan, and that's all that matters."
Alexis felt a cold fury rising up inside him. He had been used, manipulated by the king for his own purposes. He knew that he was nothing more than a pawn in the king's game of power and intrigue.
"I understand, Your Majesty," he said, his voice tight with anger. "I'll play my part. But don't think for a moment that I've forgotten about your promise. I had slept with you for this"
The king's expression didn't change, but his voice was icy. "I'm not concerned about your feelings or whatever we shared Alexis. What concerns me is the success of this mission. You will do what you're told, and you will not question my orders. Do I make myself clear?"
Alexis nodded, his Majesty's words, his mind racing with thoughts of rebellion and betrayal. He knew that he had to be careful, to play the king's game for now. But he also knew that he would not forget the king's words, and that one day he would exact his revenge.
