Diego's POV
"Well, have you figured out how that fool knew I was at that venue?
"Not yet Diego," Luis responded guiltily. "I will find that out before tomorrow morning,I promise."
"That's better," I said. I needed to find out who I was dealing with and nothing was more important than that at the moment.
Luis stood there, contemplating whether to tell me something or not. "Speak up quickly; I've got other business to handle," I urged.
"Adriana has woken up," Luis blurted out. That wasn't my concern; I had more urgent matters to attend to.
"That's not my business,"I said plainly. Suddenly, I recalled what Adriana had murmured before passing out. "Which medicine was she asking about in the room yesterday?"
From Luis' expression, I could tell he had no idea what I was talking about.
"I don't know anything about that,"he replied, confused. "But I will find out.
"Don't bother with that,"I told him, dismissing the idea. "Just find out how that guy knew where I was," I concluded.
Luis nodded in agreement and left my office. As I bent down to pick up a document that had fallen on the floor, a sharp pain stung my left shoulder.
"Damn it!" I exclaimed. If only that girl hadn't shown up to ruin my plans yesterday, I wouldn't have been shot. "I need to deal with her," I decided.
Just then,I heard gunshots outside my building and signaled for my bodyguards to find out what was happening. A few minutes later, Rodrigo rushed into my office holding an envelope.
"Boss, this is for you,"he said while handing me the envelope. I tore it open and read the letter inside.
"I won't rest until I see your dead body in
front of me, I promise you that. I will make
you pay and neither will you nor your men
will be able to stop me." Till then, Diego
Castillo."
My blood began to boil and I angrily tore the paper in pieces. The guts of the human being to send this to me.
"Bring my car around now!" I ordered Rodrigo. "And I want you and Ignacio to find out why Mr Javier met with that fool a month ago. Is that clear?" I roared.
"Yes boss," Rodrigo replied, bowing his head.
I picked up my suit jacket from the stand where it hung and left the building, heading home.
Adriana's POV
As I sat at the edge of the bed,I began to recall what had happened the day before. One thing was clear; my mental illness had returned.
I was still weak from what had happened, so I could not go anywhere. Instead, I stayed in my room, trying to escape from Diego and all my troubles.
"Adriana Cruz!, where the hell are you?" A deep voice shouted from downstairs. I knew it was Diego and I began to feel anxious.
Within seconds, I heard footsteps coming up the stairs and approaching my room door. I quickly lay down on the bed and covered myself with a duvet while pretending to be asleep and waiting for the worst to happen.
Suddenly, the door flew open, and a figure began to approach me. I could feel sweat tickling down my neck even in the air-conditioned room, yet I kept my eyes tight shut.
"Get up right now!" Diego roared, yanking off the duvet that was covering me. I was still cowering under the duvet when he threw it on the floor.
"Get up right now or I'll get you up, "he ordered with an angry tone. I immediately got up and ran to the corner of the room before anything could happen. As Diego approached me, I moved back further but then stopped in my tracks.
"Why am I moving back or even scared of him?" I thought. Maybe the way he shot my man emotionlessly at the venue yesterday frightened me;but he saved my life after all.
Diego gripped my wrist and dragged me to his room, slamming the door shut. My heart began to pound heavily in my chest, and all I wanted to do was let go of his grip and run away, but I could only follow him like a puppet.
"What games are you trying to play here?" Diego questioned me sternly, focusing his gaze on me as he pushed me into a corner of his room.
I could not utter a word; I just stood there, hoping all everything happening was just a nightmare. I could feel his gaze piercing through me but I managed to stay calm.
"Are you deaf or what?" Diego roared, hitting his palm on the wall behind me in anger. " I am talking, to you dimwit, answer me now!"
"I don't understand what you mean," I replied in a shaky voice. It seemed like my answer only made him angrier because his expression changed from bad to worse that instant.
"Do you take me for a fool?"he questioned angrily. "What is it with your endless passing out? And how are you connected to that fool I shot yesterday?
"Answer me right now or you'll regret," Diego threatened and moved closer to where I stood. I slumped to the ground as my knees become weak and I felt like passing out there and then because that was the only way I could escape.
However, Diego was very serious and would not leave me alone till I gave him an answer. He grabbed my right arm and pulled me up from the ground, tightening his grip on my arm.
"I-I don't know why I keep passing out," I lied enduring the pain from his grip.
"You have not answered my important question, how are you connected to that fool from yesterday?," Diego continued to question me while tightening his grip.
"Speak fast young lady," Diego yelled impatiently. "If it weren't for you,I would not have been shot yesterday."
"I know nothing about that person honestly,"I cried. The pain was worsening and it felt like my skin was ripped apart. I managed to escape from his grip and run out of his room when he held his shoulder in pain.
"I am not finished with you Adriana, I'll be back,"he said just as I slammed my room door and lock it from behind. I knew I would not be going out of my room any time soon.
After few minutes of sitting on the floor, just as I was about to go lay down on the bed, I heard a loud knock on my bedroom door and I froze in fear. The knocking continued more loudly and impatiently and I wondered who it was.
