The tension in my heart gradually eased as the journey continued.
Daniel Carter looked at me and approached with a low voice, "I'm taking my son to see Grandpa later in the courtyard. Would you like to join us?"
I glanced at him and thought that this didn't seem appropriate.
Old Master Carter had clearly opposed the idea of me and Daniel being together back then.
He had a suitable daughter-in-law in mind.
I had promised to step back.
But now, suddenly coming back with a child, catching everyone off guard, and going in front of the old man to "show off."
What would the old man think?
He's surely going to feel that I've played everyone for a fool.
"I better not go. If it upsets Grandpa Carter, it'll be a great offense on my part," I said quietly, being aware of my actions.
"Alright, then you make yourself comfortable over here."
"Okay."
Daniel Carter turned away, said a few words to his parents, and picked up the little guy toddling around to head to Grandpa's courtyard.
