Lily POV
Nathan continued to stare at me without saying a word, his silence more unnerving than any lecture could have been.
"And I want to apologize for Kai and Liam showing up at your house," I continued desperately. "I know that must have been uncomfortable, and I'm sorry you got dragged into pack politics because of me."
After what felt like an eternity, Nathan nodded slightly. "It's fine," he said simply, then turned his attention back to his papers as if the conversation was over.
But I couldn't let it end there. The not knowing was worse than any embarrassment I might face.
"Nathan," I said again, my voice barely above a whisper. "Did we... last night, did we...?"
He sighed, a sound that seemed to carry the weight of frustration and resignation. "The only thing that stopped me yesterday was your stupid mate mark," he said bluntly, his eyes never leaving his papers. "But next time, you won't be so lucky."
