Kyra's POV
As Kieran disappeared from my sight, I took a sharp breath and shook my head. Seeing the hurt in his eyes and the tension in his shoulders as he walked away, I realized how much my words had wounded him.
Maybe I shouldn't have called him cold blooded. Kieran had changed a lot since before, and he was really trying to help us now. But Emily's disappearance had me so upset that my fear was eating up any clear thinking.
But I couldn't make myself apologize. The words got stuck in my throat and wouldn't come out.
I got that he was worried about me, but he couldn't keep doing this. Emily needed him. As her husband, he should be protecting her. Sure, their relationship wasn't normal. There was no love between them, more like something based on duty. But he couldn't abandon her again. No matter what, she was his wife now.
