Chapter 32 - Chapter 32: The Cat and Mouse Game Goes Terribly Wrong

The group chatted as they ate, and soon, most of the snacks were gone.

At this point, Ron noticed that the person who ate the most was, contrary to her appearance, the most frail-looking of the four, Dolly.

This made Ron's lips move, and he finally couldn't help but ask, "Harry, didn't you say your sister's appetite was bad?"

"She just eats a lot but doesn't gain weight, so her appetite is bad."

"You call that a bad appetite?"

Ron felt that Harry had been a Muggle for too long and that many of his concepts were different from those of wizards.

As for Dolly's physique, Ron didn't feel any envy.

After all, the four of them were only 11 or 12 years old, not yet at the age of weight anxiety.

"Oh, right, I almost forgot my pet."

Ron said, bending down to get his pet cage.

"A pet?"

Harry looked over curiously and was surprised to find that Ron had taken out a large rat.

"This is Scabbers..."

Just as Ron was about to explain with a smile, a large yellow figure descended from the sky, pouncing straight for Scabbers in Ron's hand.

It was Crookshanks, who had jumped out of his cage at the very beginning and had been sleeping on the ceiling panel above them.

Crookshanks was very smart; Hermione had already discovered this.

So she wasn't too concerned about where Crookshanks was, but she hadn't expected Ron to suddenly take out a large rat.

"Oh, bloody hell, where did that cat come from!"

Ron immediately panicked, holding his rat tightly in one hand and swinging the other to hit the large cat.

Crookshanks extended his sharp claws, piercing Ron's clothes and clinging to him. Faced with Ron's fist, not only did he not retreat, but he let out an angry hiss, as if he wouldn't rest until he had killed the rat.

Hermione also reacted, calling out anxiously, "Crookshanks, come back! That's not a wild rat!"

Hearing his master's command, Crookshanks finally retracted his claws and jumped off Ron's body.

But after landing, he still stared intently at the rat in Ron's hand, a look that made Ron even angrier.

"Hermione, control your cat!"

Hermione picked up Crookshanks. She had originally wanted to apologize.

But seeing Ron's furious expression, she said, "Why don't you control your rat? You suddenly take out a rat, of course my cat will get angry."

"He's not a rat, he's my pet!"

"Crookshanks is not just a cat, he's my pet too!"

Ron's ears turned red with anger, and Hermione didn't back down an inch.

Seeing that the group, who had been laughing and talking just moments before, was about to start a fight, Harry immediately looked to Dolly, hoping for his sister's help.

After all, only Dolly could persuade Hermione.

However, Dolly was also looking at the rat, contemplating what to do.

She knew the secret of this rat.

It looked like a rat, but it was actually a living person.

His true identity was Peter Pettigrew, the traitor who had betrayed Harry's family.

He had entered Hogwarts in the same year as Sirius Black, James Potter, and Remus Lupin, joined their little group, and become an Animagus.

An Animagus was a wizard who could transform into a non-magical animal. Because it could be used without a wand, it was flexible for reconnaissance, self-preservation, and even combat, making it an extremely advanced form of magic.

Peter Pettigrew was deeply trusted by James Potter and the others, and was even chosen as their Secret-Keeper.

As long as the Secret-Keeper did not reveal the location of the Potter family, even Voldemort could not find them.

But Peter Pettigrew had already surrendered to Voldemort, which led to Voldemort storming the Potters' house, only to be defeated by Harry's mother's ancient magic, creating the Boy-Who-Lived.

After Voldemort's disappearance, Peter Pettigrew, fearing punishment from the Order of the Phoenix and the Ministry of Magic, created an explosion with his wand during a confrontation with Sirius Black, blew off his own right finger, and disappeared.

Sirius Black and the entire magical world thought Peter Pettigrew was dead, but he had actually used his Animagus form to turn into a rat.

Through a series of coincidences, he became Ron's pet.

A normal rat only lives for a year or two, but Scabbers had lived in Ron's family for six or seven years, which was one of the best proofs.

This was also why Crookshanks was so angry.

Crookshanks was not an ordinary cat. He had extremely high intelligence and had inherited the magical abilities of a Kneazle.

He could identify wizards who harbored ill intentions towards his master and could even see through an Animagus.

In Crookshanks' eyes, Peter Pettigrew was probably squeaking with laughter in Ron's arms.

Understanding all this, one could understand what Dolly was thinking now.

Should I expose Peter Pettigrew's true identity?

Exposing Peter Pettigrew's true identity would cause the events of the third year to happen early.

After all, the reason Sirius Black was imprisoned was because he had killed the "hero" Peter Pettigrew.

But if Peter Pettigrew was actually alive, then Sirius Black would naturally be the one who had been wronged.

But the downside...

Touching the wand at her waist, Dolly felt that with her 1 point of magic, it was better not to expose Peter Pettigrew.

After all, although Peter Pettigrew looked猥琐 (sleazy/creepy), he was also someone who could blow up an entire street with a spell.

And right now, on the entire Hogwarts Express, only the trolley witch and the driver were adults; the rest were all students.

If Peter Pettigrew got his hands on a wand and blew up the Hogwarts Express, Dolly, as a transmigrator, would be carrying a great sin.

Of course, she wouldn't do nothing.

After school started, she would slowly learn about Animagi and then find an opportunity to reveal Scabbers' strangeness to the professors.

Having the professors deal with Peter Pettigrew should be a sure thing.

"Sister..."

Harry tugged at Dolly's sleeve, his voice tinged with a plea.

He could see that Ron was really on the verge of tears from anger.

For Ron, Scabbers was his pet, one of the few things that truly belonged to him.

Because he had so many older brothers, Ron's clothes and supplies were all hand-me-downs. So Scabbers was not just a pet to Ron, but a companion.

Hermione, naturally, also felt wronged.

It was Ron who had taken Scabbers out directly. If he had just given them a warning, Hermione would have called back Crookshanks to prevent a cat-and-mouse conflict.

What's more, in essence, Crookshanks was actually saving Ron.

Thinking of this, Dolly prepared to smooth things over first, so that Ron wouldn't storm out.

Although Dolly didn't plan to become close friends with Ron, she didn't want to break the bond between Harry and Ron either.

However, before Dolly could make a move this time, the door was opened again.

"Um, excuse me, have you seen a toad..."

The newcomer was Neville. Seeing the tense atmosphere in the room, his voice grew smaller and smaller.

Finally, he just apologized, "Sorry to bother you."

"Wait!"

Harry, as if finding a lifeline, pulled Ron and chased after him.

"We'll help you find your toad!"
