Cate tried using other flight spells to regain control over it, but nothing worked. It was as though the labyrinth wanted her to taste the earth and begin to accept her position within its boundaries. Booom, she was slammed into the earth, creating a large cloud of dust and debris. "She must be dead," someone cried out. They all knew that she was a sorcerer, but in the labyrinth, one could only use the magic permitted by the ancient structure. When the dust cleared, Cate stood at the center of a large crater with not even a hair out of place.
She looked directly at the people watching her on the screen. Everyone felt as though she was right before them. "You will have to pay dearly for this, Asterion; prepare for a beating," she said before beginning to make her way through the labyrinth. "Did you tell her my name?" Asterion asked Galeazzo. The minotaur had a face filled with rage at this. "I did not tell her anything, and even if I did tell her, what do you think you can do about it..." Galeazzo was not one to be intimidated. He was a supreme mage who had lived for centuries now. He had fought against many powerful beings, and he was scared of very few.
"Why would I do anything to a friend of mine?" Asterion had no choice but to retreat at this moment. This was when the competition in the labyrinth began. Behind Cate and all the other people sent into the labyrinth, large creatures made from rock and mud appeared. They seemed to be golems, but these creatures did not have true life. They were simple puppets created by the power of the labyrinth. Each was over ten feet tall and radiated power.
Bang, these creatures attacked the people in the labyrinth, and those who did not react fast enough were crushed into blood and paste in an instant. Cate dodged the blow and turned around to face the enemy. She was one of the few who chose to fight instead of running as fast as her legs could carry her. The spectators were thrown into a frenzy at all the blood that had just been spilled in such a gruesome manner. There were nine hundred people in the labyrinth, but over one hundred of them died to the earth constructs at the very beginning.
"Demon Rain." Cate cast the demon rain spell and summoned one of the seven disasters into the labyrinth. The earth constructs were too large and lacked any kind of flexibility. They were struck by the rain, with each droplet passing through them directly, leaving large holes in their wake. Each golem had to face hundreds of raindrops with each passing second, and after just twenty seconds, all the earth constructs were reduced to mounds of earth that could not even harm an ant.
The spectators were shaken the moment they saw the demon rain, and when they saw how the earth constructs were reduced to such a sorry state, they cheered as though the world was being remade. "As expected of the master of the wandering palace. If she somehow manages to win this competition and gets out, we may both have to face her wrath," Asterion said. Galeazzo was not amused. Cate did not waste any more time. She did not know everything about this labyrinth, but she knew enough. She understood that the way out was at the center, and so she began making her way there.
She tried out more than ten tracking spells, but nothing worked against the trapping powers of this place. Still, she was not discouraged. All over the labyrinth, hundreds of people fought for their lives as they tried to make it to the center of the labyrinth. Earth constructs appeared every few hundred feet, and one had to defeat them and go past or fall and be forgotten. Cate easily wiped out all the earth constructs that appeared in her path. Her Demon Rain was simply far too effective against these large things.
"The labyrinth does not have just the earth constructs," Asterion reassured. He himself needed this reassurance. He felt that if he were to come face to face with this woman, he would lose far more than his life. He was very good at sensing danger, and Cate was coming off as an omen headed straight for him. Cate was soon faced by another of the tricks of the labyrinth. She had covered some distance when she suddenly found herself back at the starting point.
"Those who dream of leaving the labyrinth can only keep on dreaming about it," Asterion said. Before he could revel in his victory, Cate began chanting a spell. In the place where she had fought against the earth constructs, the mounds of earth that were left behind suddenly began glowing. "What is she doing?" someone asked. Asterion jumped out of his seat and looked at the screen. His eyes were wide open, and the back of his shirt was covered in sweat.
"She is casting some sort of teleportation magic," Asterion said after a second. No one believed him until they saw Cate suddenly disappear and appear at the furthest point in the labyrinth. This was the point she had reached before she suddenly found herself back at the starting point. "Whenever she fought the earth constructs using her demon rain, she secretly carved the earth around her to form magic circles that marked those places in space. All she had to do now was cast the teleportation spell and move to whatever place she had been to in this labyrinth."
Asterion answered the question, but it appeared as though he was talking to himself, trying to process how all this was possible. "How can she have a teleportation spell? The only faction with such spells is Avalon Society. There is no way they would share such a spell with someone from the Danescu clan. It is impossible," the twins said at the same time. "The spell that Cate is using is very different from the one possessed by Avalon. This must be a new teleportation spell," Galeazzo said.
The Staranse family wielded incredible power and influence within Avalon and this meant that it was easy for them to get access to the spells in Avalon. Galeazzo himself had already comprehended the Great Teleportation spell that belonged to Avalon, and he could tell the differences between that and Cate's spell.
