Chapter 93: The Summon
"Make sure to stand inside this circle." Harry moved to the center of the pentagram. A circle about four feet in diameter had been drawn in the middle.
Hermione looked around with concern. The citizens were still unaware that something was happening at all, since Harry had made sure to conceal everyone with charms.
The ink they used to draw the figure was also special and could only be spotted by someone with magical affinity.
"What is this going to do?" Hermione asked. She was sure that it would not be good for the muggles present, but she still didn't know what Harry's goal was with doing this.
"Huff… I'm so tired," Luna huffed.
"Yes, I have made you work hard today," said Harry while giving her a pat on the back. "But now it's time to enjoy the spectacle."
He made sure that all the demons had moved away from the city and that his two slaves were completely inside the circle. "No matter what you see or hear, you will not leave this circle. Otherwise, you will become affected as well."
Harry took out a knife that he had secured to his waist. This time, he had a proper ritual, one that he had found inside his treasury.
Without hesitation, he made a deep cut on his palm, and blood started to pour while he chanted something in an ancient tongue.
He could barely contain his excitement when he saw the circle starting to shine.
A very sharp buzzing sound could then be heard in intermittent intervals, like a pulse.
At this point, even the muggles began to take notice that something was happening.
They looked around in confusion, wondering what that noise was.
The citizens could tell that something was wrong. They had a strange sensation, as if something or someone was tugging at their bodies in all directions at the same time.
As Harry's chant continued, the lines shone brighter, and the buzzing sound grew louder.
"Ahhh!"
"Noo!"
"It hurts!"
The muggles suddenly began screaming and collapsing on the floor, grasping their heads with both hands and making expressions that showed the agony they were suffering.
"What's happening to them?" Hermione asked.
"Their souls are breaking apart…" Luna told her. She was the only one who could actually see it happening in real time.
The magical formation that Harry had created was not harming their bodies, but instead, it was attacking their very souls.
This caused them a type of excruciating pain that very few ever get to experience, and it was hard to describe.
Harry finished his chant with his face covered in sweat. Activating such a massive circle had taken a heavy toll on him.
But seeing that everything was working as it should made it all worth it. "Yes… yes! It's happening!" he exclaimed before moving his eyes to the sky.
Luna was also looking in the same direction. With her mage-sight, she could see the pieces of soul breaking apart from the muggles and converging at a single point, right above the center of the formation.
Hermione couldn't see this, but she did understand that all these people were likely to die very soon, and it made her feel sick.
This city must have had thousands of innocent people, and they were all going to die just because Harry wanted it to happen.
Harry was too preoccupied with his ritual to notice it, but at that moment, something broke inside Hermione.
This act that he had forced her to perform was so opposed to her sense of morality that even the slavery collar was unable to maintain its full control over her.
It was just for an instant, but Hermione's blind loyalty to Harry was being diminished by a remnant of her own free will.
"It's about to truly begin!" Harry shouted.
Just then, as the convergence of thousands of souls was reaching its apex, a massive black door made its appearance.
This one was somewhat similar to the ones that had appeared before during his previous demonic summons, except it was much bigger, and an overwhelming aura was emanating from the other side.
The screams from the muggles had stopped, signaling that everyone was already dead. Their souls were ripped out, and their bodies turned to dust before being blown away by the wind.
After a moment of silence, they saw something change. A black hand crossed the boundaries of the portal and appeared on their side of reality.
"A high-rank demon!" Harry could not control his excitement. This was an unprecedented feat.
As far as he was aware, no one had ever summoned a demon this powerful before.
Even the Codex Daemonica had no method to do this. It was something that Harry had designed himself by extrapolating the previous rituals into a much larger scale.
After that first demonic black hand came out, another one appeared on the other side of the portal.
With one hand on each side, the demon seemed to be pushing the portal so it would open further.
The sky was making loud cracking noises, as if reality itself was being torn apart.
Hermione and Luna were watching in awe at the scene while Harry could not contain his delight.
Once the portal had been pushed further apart, a colossal figure crossed into their world.
It appeared humanoid and was covered in leathery black skin. It had wide bat-like wings and a pair of horns.
The demonic creature descended slowly into the city while observing its surroundings.
Then, its eyes shone with a piercing red light as they landed on the only three remaining living beings.
When the demon finally landed on the floor, its feet broke the ground apart under its incredible weight.
The creature was twice as tall as the houses surrounding it, and its wings seemed to cover the entire sky.
Then, its mouth opened and it spoke in a strange tongue that Harry recognized as the same demonic language that most intelligent demons spoke.
"What did he say?" Luna asked.
"I believe he spoke his name… Abaddon."
