Chapter 96 - The Matriarch's Matchmaking Gambit

The beeping of hospital monitors slowly filtered through my consciousness as I opened my eyes to a sterile white ceiling. My head throbbed, and memories from last night crashed back in fragments—the drugged water, Victor's attack, Julian's arrival.

And then... nothing. Julian had brought me here and left.

Of course he had.

I pushed myself up, wincing at the soreness in my muscles. The room was empty. No flowers, no notes, no sign anyone had visited. The clock on the wall showed it was nearly noon.

A nurse bustled in, surprise registering on her face. "Oh! You're awake. How are you feeling, Mrs. Monroe?"

"Like I need to leave," I said, already swinging my legs over the side of the bed.

"I should call Alpha King Valois first—"

"No," I cut her off firmly. "That won't be necessary."
