Chapter 99 - A Matriarch's Shield and a Familiar Face

I hurried through the dark hallways of the pack house, my heart still hammering against my ribs. The feeling of Julian's hands on my skin lingered like a burn, and I couldn't stop looking over my shoulder, half-expecting him to appear from the shadows.

No way was I going back to my room tonight. Not when Julian was in this mood—possessive, unpredictable, dangerous.

I needed sanctuary, and there was only one person in this entire pack whose authority even Julian wouldn't dare challenge.

The hallway leading to Matriarch Genevieve's quarters was quieter, more elegant than the rest of the house. Two guards stood at attention outside her door, their expressions softening slightly when they recognized me.

"Is she awake?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

One nodded. "She's reading, Luna."

I didn't bother correcting the title. Instead, I knocked gently on the ornate wooden door.

"Come in, dear," called a warm voice.
