Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: Swordsmen Fall One After Another, Sishu Makes His Move

"Huh, how did I get on the bed?" Slowly opening her eyes, Tamayo sat up, holding her forehead. Her consciousness was still fuzzy, and she couldn't quite remember what had happened before. She only vaguely recalled the cold and cruel command of that man echoing in her mind. Instinctively, she had refused. Then her mind went blank, and she only remembered Sishu rushing toward her.

Wait, Sishu?

She quickly looked around but couldn't find the man from her memory. Only a piece of paper on the table still carried a faint trace of his presence. Picking up the paper and reading it, Tamayo understood where Sishu had gone. The note generally said that he was going to investigate Muzan's plot and that she shouldn't worry about him. He was also concerned that she might fall under Muzan's control again if she got too close, so he was going alone this time.

A warm feeling spread through her heart, and Tamayo smiled gently. She had lived much longer than Sishu, but in his presence, she felt like a child, being cared for at every turn.

Getting up, Tamayo walked to the window and looked at the sun, which was already beginning to glow faintly outside. Sishu, you must be careful. I will wait for you here, always.

...

Meanwhile, after leaving Nenyuki Town, Sishu followed a faint feeling in his heart, constantly adjusting his direction. He didn't know if this feeling was reliable, but it was better than wandering around aimlessly.

In the afternoon, he stopped as he passed by a forest. On the outskirts of the forest, a significant number of trees had fallen. Fortunately, it seemed to have happened at night, so no one was injured. Naturally, no one knew the full story of what had happened. But Sishu was drawn to the state of the fallen trees.

The dozen or so fallen trees were not randomly crisscrossed but were fanned out, with seven or eight on each side. It looked as if they had been pushed down by a giant ape.

Narrowing his eyes, Sishu slipped past the curious onlookers and approached the fallen trees. A quick inspection revealed some suspicious signs. On several of the trees on both sides, there was a giant handprint, and a footprint was visible in a mud pit on the ground.

Comparing it briefly with his own foot, Sishu deduced that this bipedal creature was at least five meters tall. A five-meter-tall being... in this era, there was only one possibility.

An incredibly powerful demon with a formidable Blood Demon Art!

From the direction of the footprints, there were no populous towns nearby. This meant the creature didn't leave because of food. Combined with what had happened to Tamayo, Sishu understood Muzan's plan. Muzan was gathering a large number of demons for some unknown purpose. And for him to make such a big move, even mobilizing other demons, his goal must be significant.

With the power of the Progenitor of Demons, this army of demons could sweep through town after town. Even powerful samurai and organized military units would be no match for them at night. Except for one organization: the Demon Slayer Corps.

Thinking this, Sishu had already unraveled Muzan's plan. He was going to use the time after Yoriichi's death to completely annihilate the Demon Slayer Corps! By doing so, there would be no more organized demon hunters, only a few scattered individuals without a system.

A brilliant strategy, striking right at the heart.

His eyes turned cold. Without hesitation, Sishu ran in the direction of the footprints. It wasn't that he had forgiven the Demon Slayer Corps for what they had done to him and Yoriichi, but the current era still needed them. Relying on himself alone to find Muzan would be too time-consuming; if Muzan was determined to hide, it could take hundreds of years just to find him. Moreover, before Yoriichi died, he had told Sishu that if the Demon Slayer Corps faced a major crisis they couldn't handle, he could lend them a hand.

Since his master had said so, he couldn't just stand by. Besides, Sishu had a feeling that the mission he had been waiting for was about to arrive.

Following the demon's trail, Sishu ran until dusk. As night fell, he finally caught up with the owner of the footprints. Looking into the distance, the town ahead was already a sea of fire. People wailed in the flames, while demons laughed maniacally. Occasionally, someone, in a fit of rage, would try to fight back, only to be easily killed by a demon.

Only a few strange swordsmen, wearing Demon Slayer uniforms and holding weapons, could put up a fight against these demons. But even they could, at best, handle one demon at a time. A dozen swordsmen against dozens of demons was nothing more than adding dishes to a feast.

One, two, three... The swordsmen fell one by one, becoming delicious meals in the grinning mouths of the demons. The remaining swordsmen stood back-to-back, as if trying to draw courage and strength from each other for a final struggle. But in the face of true power, all of this was futile.

A swordsman with one eye blind and his left arm severed finally broke under the immense pressure. He dropped his Nichirin Blade and ran frantically towards the outside. However, he hadn't run more than a few steps before a dog-headed demon bit his throat.

"Save me..." His hands and feet beat desperately against the demon's body, and a muffled cry for help came from his throat. But to the demons, this was just a little pre-dinner entertainment. The dog-headed demon squeezed lightly and crushed the man's head. Warm blood splattered, making its grinning mouth even more terrifying. As if clad in a layer of red armor, the fur on the dog-headed demon's body stood on end, glittering like steel in the moonlight.

Its thick, fat tongue darted out, licking the blood from its face. It seemed to be savoring the taste, or perhaps contemplating its next target.

Feeling the dog-headed demon's gaze sweep over them, the remaining swordsmen couldn't help but tremble. In the face of death, few could look it straight in the eye.

Only one female swordsman with a braided ponytail and a cherry blossom hairpin hadn't given up. She charged at the dog-headed demon. Drawing her sword, she instantly thrust at it.

Faced with her attack, the dog-headed demon didn't flinch.

Stab!

The sharp blade pierced through the dog-headed demon's fur defense and then through its shoulder. But it only pierced the shoulder. Glancing at his shoulder as if he felt no pain, the dog-headed demon revealed a savage grin. He swung his right hand, his sharp claws carrying a foul stench as they smashed towards the braided female swordsman.

Seeing the claws getting closer in her vision, the female swordsman knew she was about to die and subconsciously closed her eyes.

Just then, the air suddenly grew hot. A fiery slash cut across the dog-headed demon's right arm. With a swoosh, a furry arm went flying into the air.

In pain, the dog-headed demon turned with a crazed look in its eyes. There, a young man holding a crimson Nichirin Blade was slowly walking towards them.
