The night had ended quietly after Kaelthar erased the shrouded being and stitched the threads of fate back together. To the girls, it was just another peaceful evening. They hadn't noticed the disturbance, and Kaelthar hadn't spoken of it. Mortals, devils, even fallen angels weren't meant to know what walked beyond their world. Some truths crushed more than they enlightened.
By the time dawn broke, they found themselves not in the endless expanse of Kaelthar's personal dimension, but standing before a mansion that looked as if it had always been there.
It rose out of the gentle slope of the land, its walls pale stone, its gardens already blooming with life. Birds circled in the air, sunlight danced against the tall windows, and a path of smooth cobblestone stretched out from the grand doors as though generations had walked it before them.
Rias turned in a slow circle, her crimson hair swaying. "This wasn't here yesterday," she said, her voice full of disbelief.
Akeno folded her arms beneath her chest, lips curving. "I think you underestimate Kaelthar. If he wants a house, he just… wills it into being." She glanced at him. "Though this looks less like a house and more like an estate."
Kaelthar stood quietly at the base of the steps, his eyes moving over the structure. He hadn't just built walls and a roof; he had woven identity into the land, history into the stone. To the world outside, this mansion had always existed. It belonged. That was the point.
"It is easier this way," he said simply. "A place rooted in this world will draw less suspicion than vanishing into my dimension every day."
Rias frowned, though her tone softened. "You didn't have to do all of this just for us."
He looked at her, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "I didn't. I did it for all of us."
For a moment, she had no reply.
Koneko padded past them and stepped inside first, her small form disappearing into the cool interior. When she returned, she gave a rare nod of approval. "It feels… warm," she murmured. "Like it's lived in."
"That's because I gave it memories," Kaelthar said.
Akeno tilted her head. "Memories?"
"Not real ones. Just… threads. So it feels natural, not like something born yesterday."
Her smile widened. "You thought of everything."
Inside, the mansion opened into a hall lined with paintings, chandeliers casting golden light across polished marble. It was elegant but not cold — the air carried the faint scent of flowers from the gardens, and the warmth of the sunlight spilling through tall windows softened every corner.
Kunou darted past them, her tails swishing. "It's huge! Can I have the top room?" she asked, her eyes sparkling.
Kaelthar chuckled. "You may choose any room you like."
Her grin could have lit up the entire hall.
Later, when they gathered in the dining room, food appeared at Kaelthar's thought — fruits fresh with dew, steaming bread, meat roasted to perfection. The girls looked at the spread, half in awe, half in suspicion.
"Is it… edible?" Rias asked carefully.
Kaelthar raised an eyebrow. "Of course."
She picked up a goblet of wine, hesitated, then took a sip. Her eyes widened. "It's better than anything I've had at home."
Akeno leaned forward with a sly smile. "Spoiling us already? Careful, Kaelthar, we might get used to this."
Kunou was already munching happily, while Koneko tore into bread without hesitation. The sound of their quiet laughter filled the room, weaving warmth into the walls.
Kaelthar watched them, but his thoughts wandered elsewhere. The mansion was complete, its false history firmly placed into the world, but the scars left behind in the timestream still gnawed at him. He had erased the intruder, but the faint cracks remained.
Someone sent it, he thought, eyes drifting to the window. Someone wanted to interfere. But why here?
He said nothing of it. Not now. Let them have this moment.
When the meal was done, Rias leaned back in her chair, her eyes still studying him. "So, what now? You've given us a mansion, a home. But you didn't just build this because you felt like decorating the countryside."
Kaelthar met her gaze evenly. "A home is more than decoration. It's a place to return to. You will understand in time."
She exhaled softly, half exasperated, half accepting. "You always speak in riddles."
Akeno laughed lightly. "And yet, he gets away with it."
Even Koneko cracked the faintest hint of a smile.
Kaelthar leaned back, letting their voices wash over him. For all the storms gathering in the threads of fate, for all the things only he could see, this moment was enough. The mansion was not just stone or illusion — it was a promise. A fragile beginning of belonging.
And though he knew the peace wouldn't last, he allowed himself to enjoy it, if only for now.
