Kusuo appeared behind her and made a quick cut on her back with his sword. Natsuhi finally reacted, collapsing to the ground. "What just happened?" Seeing that it was Kusuo, she immediately looked up at him. "We have to get out of here. There's something strange about this place."
At this point, Natsuhi no longer cared about anything else. Escaping with her life was now her greatest hope. "The ones outside are our village's main force, and they've been controlled too. Their strength is immense." Weapons like the fire crossbows could be used by anyone, and when combined with exploding tags, they were not only fast but also incredibly destructive. "If they start using those weapons, there will be too many of them. We'll be trapped!"
Although they hadn't found the Hoshikage, they could now be certain that all the puppets were being controlled from a central point near him.
"Natsuhi, are you still planning to resist?" the Hoshikage's voice echoed.
Hearing it, Natsuhi and the ninja beside her showed no signs of giving up. "We will never give up! Not unless you hand over the 'Star'!"
The Hoshikage laughed uproariously. "Insolence! Men!"
At his command, the figures outside the building immediately charged in. "Today, I will show you just how powerful those of us from the Star Village who have trained with the 'Star' can be." A group of puppets immediately surrounded Natsuhi and her followers. Kusuo was naturally caught in the middle.
"Lord Kusuo..." Natsuhi looked at him with a pleading expression. At this point, the only one who could help them was him.
"Hmm?" The Hoshikage finally noticed Kusuo standing beside Natsuhi. "Who are you? When did you enter the village?" The Hoshikage could track the movements of all his puppets, but none had informed him that an outsider had entered. "So it was you. You actually dare to harbor a traitor and come to our village." He pointed a trembling finger at Natsuhi.
But Kusuo could clearly see that his body was shaking because he was controlling too many puppets. "If you continue to control so many puppets, you will likely die here."
Even after hearing Kusuo's warning, the Hoshikage had no intention of giving up. Since obtaining this power, his sensory abilities had greatly improved, and he had absorbed the most chakra from the Ten-Tails. Normally, he could sense the strength of others, but with Kusuo, he couldn't feel any chakra flow at all. Yet, Kusuo exuded a powerful, oppressive aura that warned him that if he dared to attack, he would surely die.
But the current Hoshikage was fearless. He quickly formed hand seals and charged at Kusuo. Several puppetized Star ninja also moved in unison. Kusuo, however, remained unhurried, his eyes fixed on their figures.
"So you brought a savior with you," the Hoshikage said mockingly. But when he got a clear look at Kusuo's face, he froze. "It's you?"
The ninja who had been charging forward immediately retreated. While Natsuhi didn't know Kusuo's true identity, the Hoshikage was different. As the "Kage" of his village, he had some dealings with other villages and had naturally heard the name Hatake Kusuo.
His pupils constricted, but his fighting spirit only grew stronger. He took out a shuriken and sliced his hand, letting his blood drip onto the "Star." The previously dim stone immediately began to glow with a purple light. Seeing this, a smile appeared on the Hoshikage's face. If not for Kusuo's appearance, he wouldn't have dared to take such a risk.
"This is the power the 'Star' grants me! A power you will never understand!"
Kusuo slowly drew his sword, his gaze cold. "This is your last chance. Tell me the truth about the problems with the villagers. Who taught you such an evil ninjutsu?"
The Hoshikage just sneered, offering no explanation. "You will never understand. This is all for the good of the Star Village."
Kusuo had no intention of letting it go.
