Chapter 28 – Shadows of Comparison
Morning arrived with a soft drizzle over Lisbon. The Benfica academy grounds shimmered under the weak sunlight, wet grass glinting like thousands of tiny mirrors. Jota woke to the faint sound of raindrops tapping gently against the dormitory window. His alarm hadn't rung yet, but he was already awake.
He sat up slowly, blinking at the ceiling. Something about today felt heavier. Not bad. Just... significant. He dressed without a word, laced his boots, and stepped out into the gray morning.
Usually, he would jog at this hour, feeling the wind and dew on his face. But today, instead, he stood at the edge of the pitch. Watching. Listening. Letting the rhythm of rain and silence prepare him. He had trained hard the past few weeks, pushed himself beyond comfort, and led his team through tough matches. But he knew that change was coming. He could feel it in his gut.
At breakfast, the buzz confirmed it.
