It felt like the night Luna Megan was poisoned all over again. Every eye in the room was on me, and the same look of suspicion was etched on every face.
Alpha Kai was the first to break the sudden, shocked silence.
"Why would she assume you did such a thing?" he asked Vera.
Vera coughed, pressing her hand to her side before answering. "I don't know, Alpha, but she accused me just a few days ago." She turned to me. "But I told you I didn't kill him, Emma. You know I can't kill anyone."
"But I didn't try to kill her," I said quickly.
At this point, I knew I was sounding like a broken record, but I couldn't think of anything else to say in my defense without telling an outright lie. And just when I thought things couldn't possibly get any worse, Vera kept talking.
