XERXES
There were a thousand angry bees buzzing in my head or so it felt. Every time I moved, a sharp, white bolt of pain flared behind my eyes.
Biting back a groan, I rose from the table and gently massaged my aching temples.
I threw open the window, letting in the chill evening air. My gaze flickered to the wall clock and did a quick mental calculation of the time I had spent here.
"Damnit!" I groaned, passing my hand over a day's growth of stubble.
It was already twenty solid hours since I had taken a break, twenty hours since I had slept, and the worst part was I still didn't feel even remotely sleepy.
I let out a bitter laugh that echoed through the room, then I stopped because even doing that hurt.
I shuffled over to the shelf, and pulled down a random ledger, flipped it open and tried to loose myself in the figures, but the numbers just kept blurring and jumbling together.
