When Elena entered the villa where she and Evan's family lived, the smile on her face froze. A confused expression appeared on her face when she saw Vanessa chatting happily with her mother-in-law and sisters-in-law. She was confused because she didn't remember her best friend being so close to her husband's family.
On the other hand, when Vanessa and the ladies of the Cross family saw that Evan and Elena were back, they walked towards Evan with a smile. Vanessa held Evan's arm and asked, "My dear Evan, is it done?"
Evan looked at Vanessa gently and kissed her on forehead, "It's all thanks to you, Vanessa."
Elena was shocked to witness the scene in front of her. She looked at the two people in so much shock that her eyes were about to pop out of her eye pockets. When her brain finally registered what was going on, she immediately went forward and tried to pull Evan away from Vanessa.
"Vanessa, what are you doing?" she exclaimed while pulling Evan.
Vanessa smiled while Evan showed a look of disgust when Elena touched him before pushing Elena forcefully.
Elena could not endure the force of the man and ended up falling on the ground. Her almond-shaped eyes filled up with tears as she had hit her elbow on the floor. However, nobody helped her up. They were just looking at her as she made a fool of herself.
"Vanessa, what do you want to eat? Aunty will make it for you," Margot Cross, Evan's mother, ignored Elena and spoke to Vanessa gently.
Vanessa didn't stand on ceremony and said, "Auntie, what are you saying! As a junior, I'm supposed to work. How can you work when I'm here?"
Elena still couldn't understand what was happening. She looked at her mother-in-law curiously and asked, "Mom, what's going on?"
Margot looked at Elena and her expression changed, "Do you still not understand bitch? What a useless piece of trash!"
Margot cursed as she spoke. She then ignored Elena again and said to Evan, "Evan, take Vanessa to your room and rest. Both of you must be tired."
Evan nodded and held Vanessa's hand. The couple then walked to the master bedroom which was Evan and Elena's room until now.
"Evan, wait! What are you doing? Vanessa, what's going on?" Elena got up from the floor hastily wanting to chase after Evan and Vanessa.
However, before Elena could move forward, her hair was held by Margot who pulled her back harshly, "Where are you going, you useless thing?"
Elena felt like her scalp was about to tear apart. "Mom, what are you doing? Leave me!"
"Leave you? For what? So that you can disturb my son and his fiancé and prevent them from giving me a grandson? Do I look like a fool?" Margot's fat face twisted with viciousness as she cursed Elena, "You are a hen who cannot lay eggs. Do you want my family to perish without a successor? You shameless woman! If I were you, I'd be so ashamed I'd bang my head against the wall and die…Why did the Cross family marry such a jinx who can't even give birth!"
Margot's words were as unpleasant as they could be.
When Elena heard all this, tears started flowing from her eyes. She understood what was going on but her heart refused to believe it. Her best friend was in her room with her husband. Obviously, she knew what it meant. However, she didn't want to believe it. How did everything change so fast? Just a few minutes ago, she was so happy with her husband. She thought that they had rekindled their love. What went wrong and when? Where did she judge wrongly?
The maids in the villa gathered in the living room, watching the show. Elena looked around and saw that there was nobody in the house whom she could rely on. The maids and the servants all were changed by Margot at some point of time. Since she wanted to be on good terms with her mother-in-law, Elena had not resisted. Thus, at this point of time, nobody came to help the fallen heiress.
Elena took a deep breath and got herself released from Margot's clutches. She ran towards the master bedroom to talk to Evan. Margot wanted to pull her back again but Katherine stopped her.
"Mother, let that bitch go!"
Katherine knew what was going on in the room and wanted Elena to witness it herself. She wanted to bring this lowly heiress down since a long time. She wanted to break her.
Elena ran towards the room and was about to push the door open but stopped midway. Her eyes turned wide as her ears perked up.
